ATP Winston-Salem Day 3 Predictions Including Nuno Borges vs Thiago Seyboth Wild

Nuno Borges Australian Open

In one of the more interesting draws of the ATP season, second-round action continues at the ATP Winston-Salem Open in a 64-player draw. All seeds get a bye into the second round, meaning many top 50 players will make their debuts on Tuesday as preparation reaches the final stages ahead of the US Open. LWOT predicts all 14 matches scheduled for Tuesday, with this set of predictions featuring Nuno Borges.

ATP Winston-Salem Day 3 Predictions

Learner Tien vs Fabian Marozsan

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a big opportunity for Tien, who is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young American stars to watch. He went on a 28-match winning streak earlier this summer and won his first ever ATP tour-level match Monday in a 3-6 6-2 6-3 win over Tristan Schoolkate. However, Marozsan is in good form, and he just stunned World No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov in Cincinnati to reclaim his spot in the ATP Top 50. Look for Marozsan to wear down Tien’s game with his experience, but Tien should make this competitive early on.
Prediction: Marozsan in 2

Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Zizou Bergs

Head-to-head: First meeting

Etcheverry is coming off a brutal loss to Ben Shelton at the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, losing 6-7 (6) 7-6 (7) 6-3 after holding a match point. Meanwhile, Bergs lost early in qualifying at that event, but rested and claimed an early first-round win over Reilly Opelka. He won that match in a third-set tiebreaker, using his powerful tennis and high confidence in important moments. I like Bergs’ chances after coming through such a close match, and he seems overdue for another win over a Top 50 opponent.
Prediction: Bergs in 3

Roman Safiullin vs Corentin Moutet

Head-to-head: Moutet 2-1

Moutet won his opening match 7-6(5) 6-1 late on Monday, and it’ll be a tricky turnaround as he faces the big-hitting Safiullin. Safiullin dropped down to the ATP Challenger Tour last week to regain some confidence and took advantage—winning the event in Cary in a thrilling three-set final. It’ll be interesting to see how Safiullin recovers, but his aggressive game style matches up well against a player like Moutet who lacks pace. Moutet could win this match if he extends the rallies and tires out Safiullin, but I don’t think he can hold up against a player in good form.
Prediction: Safiullin in 3

Nuno Borges vs Thiago Seyboth Wild

Head-to-head: Seyboth Wild 1-0

Borges is looking to surpass Joao Sousa as the greatest Portuguese tennis player, and his steady climb in 2024 suggests he may do so soon. Borges is at a career-high ranking of No. 35, and he’s taken out tough players on hard courts at recent Masters 1000 events. For Seyboth Wild, this is his first match on hard courts this summer, and he has a rather dire 6-13 record on this surface. Despite the Brazilian having the extra match in hand in Winston Salem, look for Borges to win easily.
Prediction: Borges in 2
