The Winston-Salem Open is the final ATP tournament before the US Open begins. It promises to be an exciting event, with Wimbledon quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks and US Open semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta among the players in the draw. Unfortunately, several players have decided to withdraw from the tournament in North Carolina. This article names those who have withdrawn and then lists their replacements.

Which Players Have Withdrawn?
Matteo Berrettini was a high-profile player to withdraw from the Winston-Salem Open. He played his first hardcourt match since March at the Cincinnati Open, losing in three sets to Holger Rune. That ended a 10-match winning streak for the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up after he claimed the titles in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel in July. Berrettini’s history of injury issues might explain his decision not to play in North Carolina the week before the US Open.
Jack Draper was another player to withdraw from the Winston-Salem Open. The Briton enjoyed a strong run in Cincinnati by reaching the quarterfinal. Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, his performances at the tournament were overshadowed by a controversial umpiring decision on match point that gave him victory against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16. Replays showed that the point should have been given to the Canadian. Draper’s deep run in Montreal requires additional rest before the US Open.
Arthur Fils also withdrew from the event. The talented 20-year-old lost a tight match at the Cincinnati Open to Brandon Nakashima in the round of 32. No official reason was given for the Frenchman’s decision not to play at the ATP-250 tournament. Fils is an explosive player who can go far at Flushing Meadows if he finds his best tennis.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was another Frenchman to withdraw from the Winston-Salem Open. The 21-year-old has lost his last three contests during the North American hardcourt season. Some may have expected him to want more match practice before the US Open, but Mpetshi Perricard, who reached the Wimbledon fourth round this year, has decided not to do that.
The other players who withdrew were:
Roberto Bautista Agut
Flavio Cobolli
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Fabio Fognini
Marcos Giron
Dominik Koepfer
Pedro Martinez
Sebastian Ofner
Max Purcell
Emil Ruusuvuori
Brandon Nakashima
