The North American hard court swing will continue at the Cincinnati Open. It is a combined ATP/WTA tournament, and the women’s main draw matches begin on Tuesday. There is a strong WTA entry list for the event. French Open champion Iga Swiatek and the US Open winner Coco Gauff are the top women’s seeds. However, several WTA players have elected to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open. This article names those who have withdrawn and then lists their replacements in the draw.

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova was one of the players to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open. She could not play at the recent Olympics due to a hand injury. She was a silver medalist at the last iteration of the games in Tokyo, making it a particularly bitter bill to swallow for the Czech. Vondrousova has still not recovered from that issue, and it is unclear if she will be fit for the US Open.

Three-time Grand Slam runner-up Ons Jabeur was another player to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open. The Tunisian was swept aside 3-6, 1-6 by Naomi Osaka last week at the National Bank Open, struggling throughout the match. She also withdrew from the Citi DC Open the week before with shoulder pain. That issue might still be bothering Jabeur.

This year’s Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova, also withdrew from the event. Her last match was a quarterfinal defeat to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova at the Olympics. The Czech recently posted photos and videos of her at the Olympic festival. Understandably, she wants to take a more extended break after her efforts during Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Danielle Collins was the fourth high-profile player to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open. The Miami Open champion sustained an injury in her Olympic quarterfinal against Iga Swiatek, and she has yet to recover from that problem. It is unfortunate news for Collins since 2024 is her final year before retirement. Hopefully, she can recover in time for the US Open.

The other players to withdraw were: (this list will be updated until the women’s main draw begins on Tuesday)

Maria Sakkari
