ATP 500 Washington quarterfinals
Shapovalov – Shelton: 02.08.2024 21:30 CEST
H2H: 0-1
Denis Shapovalov has won three of his last five matches. The Canadian is slowly getting better and returning to his best days. Last week in Atlanta, Shapovalov lost his first round match against Goffin in three sets. Here in Washington, Denis won his first round match against Bautista-Agut in easy straight sets. Shapovalov lost his serve twice in the second set, but other than that, the Canadian was consistent throughout the match. In the second round, Denis defeated Mannarino in straight sets as we predicted. It was an outstanding performance. Yesterday in the 1/8-Finals, Shapovalov defeated Kecmanovic in three sets as we predicted.
Ben Shelton has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Atlanta, Ben was upset by the youngster Shang in straight sets in the 1/8-Finals. Last season, Ben had a breakthrough year. However, so far this season, Ben has not have any remarkable results. Here in Washington, Ben won his first match against Albot in three sets. Yesterday, in the 1/8-Finals, Ben defeated Nakashima in straight sets. Shelton had another great serving performance. Last year in Washington, Ben lost his first round match against Shang in three tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Shapovalov is the slight underdog in this matchup. Denis has had an amazing tournament so far. On the other hand, Ben struggled in both of his matches. We believe that Shapovalov showed better tennis throughout the tournament, and that he will win against Ben tonight.
That being said, Shapovalov winning is a value bet.
