Paris Olympics Men’s Doubles Semifinal Predictions: USA vs Australia

Taylor Fritz in action ahead of the ATP Rome Masters.

The men’s doubles schedule has been thrown off a bit at the Paris Olympics, but we have a great semifinal match set for Friday. Will Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz make it an all-American final? Or will the Aussies spoil the party and keep their chances at Gold alive? Our writers share their thoughts. Predicting this match are Damian Kust, Jordan Reynolds, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will win?

Paris Olympics Men’s Doubles Semifinal Predictions

Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz (United States) vs Matthew Ebden and John Peers (Australia)

Damian:
Will it be an all-American final? Ebden/Peers have done pretty well this event with the latter rediscovering some of his form that took him to World No. 2 many years back. Fritz and Paul have some fun energy together but can they quite match the doubles specialists here? Not sure their serve/return games are quite good enough to make up for the lack of doubles experience now that they’re facing their first top-quality opponents.
Prediction: Ebden and Peers in 3

Jordan:
Paul and Fritz were outstanding in their victory against Dan Evans and Andy Murray. If they perform like that again, Peers and Ebden have their work cut out. Both are established doubles players, but Paul and Fritz have gelled as a team superbly. I think they will make the final in straight sets.
Prediction: Paul and Fritz in 2

Yesh:
This American team is playing so well, and they’re both comfortable on the play. They’re better tennis players than the Aussies, and they each have strong enough serves to make every game winnable. The Americans will move on.
Prediction: Paul and Fritz in 2
