ATP Olympic Games 1/16-Finals
Wawrinka – Popyrin: 30.07.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 0-1
Stanislas Wawrinka has lost three of his last five matches. So far this season, Stan has not had any remarkable results and struggled with his fitness and form throughout the whole season. Two weeks ago in Gstaad, Stan lost his first round match against Klein as we predicted. Here in Paris, Stan played an amazing first round match against Kotov, and won in straight sets. Wawrinka did not offer any breakpoints, and lost only two games in the whole match.
Alexei Popyrin has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Umag, Popyrin lost his first round match against Mensik in straight sets. Here in Paris, Popyrin won his first round match against Jarry in straight sets. The Australian loves to play fast and aggressive tennis, which does not fit this surface. However, Popyrin can also perform on clay as well. So far this season, Popyrin has played 10 clay court matches, with a losing 3-7 record.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. We believe that Popyrin will be the better player in this matchup. He is way younger, and moves better at the moment than Stan. Wawrinka usually has enough strength for one match, but for consecutive wins, Wawrinka usually lacks fitness.
That being said, Popyrin winning is a value bet.

Zverev – Machac: 30.07.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting
Alexander Zverev has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Hamburg, Alexander reached the final where he lost against Arthur Fils in three tight sets. It was a great tournament preparation for Sascha. Here in Paris, Zverev won his first round match against Munar in easy straight sets. Zverev scored and saved only one breakpoint. Alexander has already one gold medal at the Olympics. It was in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 where he won against Khachanov in the final.
Tomas Machac has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Umag, Machac lost his first round match against Monteiro in three tight sets. Here in Paris, Machac won his first round match against Zhang in three tight sets. Tomas played solid tennis, hitting 22 winners with 15 unforced errors. So far this season, Machac has not had any remarkable results on clay. His biggest clay court result was reaching the final in Gstaad where he lost against Ruud in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Zverev is the favorite in this matchup. Playing at the Olympic Games always requires calmness and experience. Machac is a solid player, but his nerves sometimes get into the way of achieving some bigger titles. Zverev is one of the best clay court players at the moment, and his first round performance was great. We believe that he will win this match easily in straight sets.
That being said, Zverev winning in straight sets is a value bet.
