ATP Wimbledon doubles final
Purcell/Thompson – Heliovaara/Patten: 13.07.2024 16:30 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Purcell/Thompson have won six straight matches. They have been playing since 2023 consistently together. The Australians have great energy together. Here at Wimbledon, Purcell and Thompson have lost only one set so far in the tournament. In the first round, they won against Clarke/Willis in easy straight sets. They offered, and saved both breakpoints. In the second round, Purcell and Thompson won against Martin/Middelkoop in two tight sets. Once again, it was a great serving performance from the Australians. After that, in the third round, Max and Jordan won against Mies/Smith in easy straight sets. They made 0 unforced errors, and were absolutely dominant from the very start. Their quarterfinal match was also their toughest one so far. Gonzalez and Molteni won the second set, and it was overall a high-quality match. However, Max and Jordan broke their serve in the deciding set right away, and kept their serve throughout the whole set. Yesterday in the semifinal, Purcell and Thompson won against Granollers/Zeballos in straight sets. The Australians broke their serve once in each set, which was more than enough to get the confident win. Last year at Wimbledon, Purcell and Thompson lost in the third round against Koolhof and Skupski.
Heliovaara/Patten have won six straight matches as well. Two weeks ago in Eastbourne, Heliovaara/Patten reached the semifinals where they lost against Ebden and Peers in the match tiebreak. Here at Wimbledon, Heliovaara and Patten have only lost one set as well. In the first round, Harri and Henry won against Bolleli/Vavassori in easy straight sets. After that, in the second round of the tournament, they defeated Martinez/Munar in straight sets once again. Matos and Melo also did not have an answer for their game, so Heliovaara/Patten won yet again in straight sets. Their quarterfinal match was the toughest one so far. Arevalo and Pavic were the biggest favorites to lift the title. However, Harri and Henry won in three tight sets. After they lost the first set, Harri and Henry stepped up their game and won the match through two tight tiebreaks. Today in the semifinals, Heliovaara and Patten won against Skupski/Venus in two tight sets after over an hour. It was a brilliant serving performance from them, not offering any breakpoints. Harri and Henry also won 95% of the points after the 1st serve. This is their first year playing together. So far this season, Heliovaara and Patten have already won two challenger titles. However, at the main ATP tour level, they are still trophyless.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Purcell and Thompson are the slight favorites in this matchup. Heliovaara and Patten spent most of their time playing at the challenger tour level. We believe that Purcell and Thompson will handle the pressure better, and win the title.
That being said, Purcell/Thompson winning is a value bet.
