Marie Bouzkova vs Anna Kalinskaya
Jordan: There is a nice clash of styles here between Kalinskaya’s consistent power, and Bouzkova’s preference for redirecting her opponent’s pace. The Czech’s ability to do that is why she is a very good player on grass. This could be tight, but I trust Bouzkova to stay more solid on grass when it matters most. Bouzkova in 3
Yesh: Marie Bouzkova isn’t quiet, but she is sometimes underrated. She won’t be beating elites in later rounds, but don’t be surprised if she gets there. Bouzkova in 2
Caroline Garcia vs Bernarda Pera
Jordan: Garcia can be unpredictable, but it would be a major surprise if she lost here. Pera, despite getting past the first round, is not natural on grass. Garcia’a firepower to take her through in straight sets. Garcia in 2
Yesh: Garcia hasn’t quite been the same as her tremendous showing last summer, and grass isn’t her best surface. It is Pera’s, though. But that doesn’t matter. As long as the Frenchwoman plays at even 80% of her best, she just has too much firepower. Garcia in 2
Jessica Pegula vs Wang Xinyu
Jordan: Pegula was very impressive in the opening round. It is possible that the Berlin Open champion could make a very deep run at SW19, while slipping under the radar as she does. Pegula will almost certainly be too good for Wang, who is not in her class on any surface. Pegula in 2
Yesh: Jessica Pegula is still in the Top 5, though it’s underappreciated because she’s been out of action and quiet this year. Well, she came out with a bang in Round 1, and she looks ready to continue to dominate. Pegula in 2
