Ons Jabeur vs Robin Montgomery
Yesh Ginsburg: Jabeur is on a mission here. Can she go all the way? I don’t know. But she’s not falling this early. Jabeur in 2
Jordan Reynolds: Jabeur needs to be wary here. Montgomery has an excellent serve and a game that is built for being dangerous on grass. I still favour Jabeur’s variety and quality to win, but the American taking a set would not be a surprise. Jabeur in 3
Barbora Krejcikova vs Katie Volynets
Yesh: Krejcikova might not quite be where she was when she was reaching Major finals and winning them, but she’s better in this matchup. Krejcikova in 3
Jordan: Krejcikova will need to recover from a very long match against Veronika Kudermetova, without getting the luxury of a day off between matches. That could make Volynets a tough matchup, since she is one of the most consistent and athletic players in the women’s game. The American has also been surprisingly impressive on grass so far, and I think she will upset the former French Open champion here. Volynets in 2
Yulia Putintseva vs Katerina Siniakova
Yesh: Siniakova looks really solid on the grass this year. But so does Putintseva. Expect a fun one, and this really could go either way. Siniakova in 3
Jordan: This is an interesting matchup. Siniakova’s best surface is grass, but the recent Birmingham Open champion Putintseva has been thriving on the surface this year, in stark contrast to previous years. Despite this, Siniakova is given a narrow edge in this matchup. I think she is capable of managing Putintseva’s variety, and then using her firepower off her backhand in particular to prevail. Camila Osorio Serrano vs Beatriz Haddad Maia
Yesh: Beatriz Haddad Maia looked like a threat to win this event last year. That fizzled out. Expectations are much lower this year, but she’s still a tremendous talent on grass. Haddad Maia in 2
Jordan: There will undoubtedly be many long rallies between two of the biggest fighters in the women’s game. On grass though, Haddad Maia should be able to get the job done. Her superior serve and slightly greater firepower is likely to make the difference. Haddad Maia in 2
