But who will advance?

Wimbledon Day 4 Predictions

Holger Rune vs Thiago Seyboth Wild

Ateet: Holger Rune’s game works well on faster surfaces and he was in full flight in the first round. His serve was firing, and he took away time from his opponent. Thiago Seyboth Wild was one of the few players who made a remarkable comeback from down two sets in the first round. Wild has a much tougher task with Rune and he is not prepared for that.

Prediction: Rune in 3

Jordan: Seyboth Wild’s comeback from two sets down against Paul Jubb was incredible. However, the Brazilian cannot afford to start that slowly against Rune. He is too inconsistent for me to back him over five sets against the Dane.

Prediction: Rune in 4

Damian: It was a wild comeback (pun intended) from Seyboth Wild as he defeated Jubb in the opening round. Form often doesn’t matter with hyper-aggressive players, but he will need to step it up to have a shot at Rune. He definitely has a better skillset to trouble the Dane than Kwon did on Tuesday, but it still feels like winning three sets here is out of his range.

Alex de Minaur vs Jaume Munar

Ateet: Alex de Minaur was in a tough battle against James Duckworth but did well to win that match in straight sets. He was clutch in the tiebreaks and would expect to play an easier match against Jaume Munar, who prefers clay courts and there is nothing he does better than De Minaur on grass.

Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Jordan: Expect de Minaur to be comfortable here. Munar is one of the Spaniards who can play solid tennis outside of clay. But his game on grass does not stack up against de Minaur.

Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Damian: Munar delivered an upset over Harris, despite the Brit having such a stellar grass season. He was serving well, and his forehand was actually the biggest shot on the court. But that all won’t really help him against de Minaur, who has taken his game to a new level and should enjoy his time putting pressure on Munar in a way Harris couldn’t.

Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Hubert Hurkacz vs Arthur Fils

Ateet: Hubert Hurkacz started slowly in his first-round match but got better and won comfortably in four sets. He is one of the favourites outside the top 3 to win the title and will hope for a better performance against Arthur Fils, who has played some great tennis recently. Fils is a talented player with lots of upside, but Hurkacz will be too much for him.

Prediction: Hurkacz in 4

Jordan: This is likely to come down to fine margins. Fils game is more watchable, but Hurkacz’s huge serve is more reliable on grass in particular. The Pole to get the job done by playing the big points better.

Prediction: Hurkacz in 4

Damian: Hurkacz looked a bit shaky vs Albot in the opening round (as he often does in Slam early rounds), but still managed to prevail. That’s the energy he’ll be needing to keep going in this event as Fils is such a talented prospect. Grass isn’t fully his thing but it’s not like Hurkacz will be rushing his spin-heavy forehand that much. Still, the Pole’s serve will likely open up a way for him to prevail.

Prediction: Hurkacz in 4

Taylor Fritz vs Arthur Rinderknech

Ateet: Taylor Fritz dispatched his first-round opponent in no time and submitted his contention for the title. He is coming off a title in Eastbourne and will like his chances against anybody. Arthur Rinderknech has a good serve, but Fritz does everything better. The American player should cruise into the third round.

Prediction: Fritz in 3

Jordan: Rinderknech faces the very difficult challenge of Fritz the day after a tough five-set battle against Kei Nishikori. The Frenchman would have found this matchup very tough even if he came into it fully rested. After such a long match, it is difficult to see how he competes.

Prediction: Fritz in 3

Damian: Fritz is maybe the biggest contender to make the semifinals from the third quarter and he gave himself some nice grass momentum by winning Eastbourne. Rinderknech has that big serve and likes approaching the net, but his baseline game usually looks a bit sketchier on grass. The favorite is clear here, even if the Frenchman might hang around for a while.

Prediction: Fritz in 3
