Wimbledon Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Ons Jabeur vs Moyuka Uchijima

Ons Jabeur at Wimbledon.

Day 2 of Wimbledon brings a full half of the women’s first round–32 matches in all. And as always, we here at LastWordOnTennis predict every single one for you. We split Tuesday’s matches between eight articles. In addition to this one, our other articles feature Iga Swiatek vs Sofia Kenin, Jelena Ostapenko vs Ajla Tomljanovic, Danielle Collins vs Clara Tauson, Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova, Elena Rybakina vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Caroline Wozniacki vs Alycia Parks, and Jessica Pegula vs Ashlyn Kreuger. Predicting these matches are Damian Kust, Jordan Reynolds, and Manuel Traquete. Who do you think will win?

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions

Panna Udvardy vs Anna Kalinskaya

Damian:
Kalinskaya on a fast, low-bouncing court should always be very dangerous with how early she takes the ball. She’ll have to exorcise some demons to get that first title after the Berlin final, but this shouldn’t come into play in round one already.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2

Jordan:
Kalinskaya’s recent final loss in Berlin to Jessica Pegula after holding five match points was certainly heartbreaking. Yet, it also showed how dangerous her flat hitting on grass can be at her best. It is tough to see how Udvardy will be able to live with the Russian’s level.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2

Manuel:
On paper, this is one of the most one-sided matches of this first round; Kaliniskaya has been playing great on grass, coming tantalizingly close to the title in Berlin even, while Udvardy is one of the lowest ranked players in the draw after making it through qualifying.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2

Marie Bouzkova vs Julia Riera

Damian:
Bouzkova made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before, while Riera has little experience on the surface. Nothing more to add in this case, although with the Czech’s playstyle it wouldn’t be shocking if this was reasonably competitive.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2

Jordan:
This is one of the best first round draws former quarterfinalist Bouzkova could have gotten. Riera is a clay-court specialist, and she is making her first appearance in the Wimbledon main draw. The Czech should be very comfortable here.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2

Manuel:
Bouzkova has had a really poor grass season thus far, but she got a very fortunate draw here. On grass, she should have a very significant edge over Riera and make it through to the second round.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2

Olivia Gadecki vs Robin Montgomery

Damian:
Montgomery is a great prospect and she survived that crazy match with Rakhimova in qualifying where we didn’t get a single break of serve in 36 games. The American is still quite volatile, but there’s nothing Gadecki would do if Montgomery is hitting that top level of hers.
Prediction: Montgomery in 2

Jordan:
Both these players came through some tight battles in qualifying to make it to this stage. Each woman serves well and this could come down to fine margins. I will go with Montgomery, but in truth, this match is a real toss-up.
Prediction: Montgomery in 3

Manuel:
Both players made it through qualifying and now have a golden chance to win a Grand Slam main draw match. During qualifying, Montgomery seemed to be playing at a slight higher levle and might have a bit of an edge here.
Prediction: Montgomery in 3

Ons Jabeur vs Moyuka Uchijima

Damian:
Uchijima has had some nice streaks recently, but it comes down to expectations. If you love the grass as much as Jabeur does and you want to be treated seriously in this event (you definitely do as two-time runner-up), you probably should be cleaning up this match somewhat comfortably.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2

Jordan:
For the most part, Jabeur has had a terrible time since losing her second Wimbledon final in a row almost 12 months ago. She did show some form at the French Open and will try to cling onto momentum she can. This is a good draw for her to start. Uchijima is a fighter, but she is not in Jabeur’s class, especially on grass.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2

Manuel:
Jabeur has reached the last two finals at this tournament and will once again be looking to finally win a maiden Slam after the disappointment of losing the final as a favorite last year. She should not have many issues navigating these early rounds.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2
