Wimbledon Day 2 Men’s Predictions Including Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva

Novak Djokovic in action at Wimbledon.

With a number of star names in action, there should be plenty of entertaining tennis on day two at Wimbledon. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, including Holger Rune vs Kwon Soon-woo, Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Taro Daniel, Alexander Zverev vs Roberto Carballes Baena, Hubert Hurkacz vs Radu Albot, Andy Murray vs Tomas Machac, Alex de Minaur vs James Duckworth, and Andrey Rublev vs Francisco Comesana. But who will advance?

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions

Novak Djokovic vs Vit Kopriva

Jim: It will be interesting to see what sort of level Novak Djokovic can find here, having had surgery only a few weeks ago. But if he can play anything like his best tennis, he should have the beating of Vit Kopriva. After all, the Serbian is a seven-time champion at Wimbledon.

Prediction: Djokovic in 4

Damian: Djokovic seems back healthy after that quick surgery, and was not that invasive by all accounts. The first few rounds are very nice for him, and he should have time to play himself into shape. Kopriva did well to qualify on his worst surface but is facing a literally insurmountable task here.

Prediction: Djokovic in 3

Yesh: Is Djokovic healthy? It doesn’t matter. He’ll beat Kopriva even if he isn’t. His health will matter moving forward, but he’s winning his first-round match.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Corentin Lestienne

Jim: Lorenzo Musetti demonstrated an impressive aptitude for grass-court tennis by reaching the final at Queen’s and will surely be desperate to build on that with a good run at Wimbledon. Corentin Lestienne’s unorthodox style could make him a difficult opponent, but based on his efforts two weeks ago Musetti should have enough to pass the test.

Prediction: Musetti in 3

Damian: The development of Musetti’s grass court game has been lovely to follow, even if he’s still struggling with the big-hitters. But this will be a matchup of two magicians where it’s actually the Italian who’ll have a little more in his arsenal power-wise and should use that improved flat first serve to his advantage as well.

Prediction: Musetti in 4

Yesh: Musetti is impressing on all surfaces currently. The Queen’s Club champion is ready for a breakthrough at Wimbledon to follow the rest of his recent success.

Prediction: Musetti in 3

Christopher Eubanks vs Quentin Halys

Jim: Expect plenty of aces here. Quentin Halys has never really delivered on his considerable promise, but he looked sharp in the qualifying and Christopher Eubanks will need to be on his guard. But although it has been a poor season for Eubanks, there is a reason he is ranked inside the top 50 and Halys is ranked outside the top 200.

Prediction: Eubanks in 5

Damian: The pressure is on for Eubanks in this event as he’s facing the danger of falling out far outside the Top 100 if he can’t repeat his quarterfinal run from last year. Halys already handled a cannon serve in the qualifying in Beibit Zhukayev and could be ready for the American too.

Prediction: Halys in 5

Yesh: Can Eubanks back up last year’s stunning performance? I doubt it. But his game is suited for grass, and he knows what it takes for success here. Halys is a potentially tough opponent, but I think the American won’t fall this early.

Prediction: Eubanks in 3

Federico Coria vs Adam Walton

Jim: This is a big opportunity for Adam Walton. Federico Coria is the more complete player, but gap in quality between the two is hardly yawning and it is telling that Coria prepared for Wimbledon this year by playing a clay-court Challenger in Italy. If Walton can hold his nerve, do not be surprised to see him advance.

Prediction: Walton in 4

Damian: Walton on the main tour is still very much untested, but Coria is surely one of the best draws in the event. The serve alone should already give the Australian a nice edge here, even if he so often combines it with a rather passive approach to the game. He should get the win one way or another.

Prediction: Walton in 4

Yesh: This might be a touch ask for Walton, even against a player with no real grass pedigree in Coria. It might be a short stay in SW19 for the Australian.

Prediction: Coria in 3
