WTA Den Bosch Day 2 Predictions Including Liudmila Samsonova vs Alison Van Uytvanck

Liudmila Samsonova US OPEN

There is a packed schedule of WTA action on Day 2 in Den Bosch. Due to rain, matches originally scheduled for Day 1 like Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Arina Rodionova and Bianca Andreescu vs Eva Vedder are still to be completed. Ten other contests will also be played on Day 2, with three of those predicted here. We at LWOT predict the other matches in two separate articles, including Jessica Pegula vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Naomi Osaka vs Elise Mertens. Which players do you expect to win?

WTA Den Bosch Day 2 Predictions

Aleksandra Krunic vs Jessika Ponchet

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a tricky opening round for Krunic, who returned this season after missing the entirety of 2023. Ponchet’s style is a real throwback, with short swings and regular rushes to the net. That makes her a threat on grass in particular. Although Krunic’s overall game is superior to the Frenchwoman’s, an upset is predicted in this matchup. The Serbian may be quite rusty in her first match on grass, while Ponchet won two matches in qualifying to reach this stage. That could make her unique playing style an even bigger challenge to overcome.
Prediction: Ponchet in 3

Veronika Kudermetova vs Zhuoxuan Bai

Head-to-head: First meeting

It has been a very difficult season for Kudermetova. Changing onto the grass may be just what she needs. Her overall record on the surface is not overly impressive, but she was the runner-up to her compatriot Samsonova in Den Bosch last year. The Russian will need to be on her game against Bai, whose only Grand Slam main draw victory was at Wimbledon last year. Nonetheless, Kudermetova’s power should overwhelm Bai, allowing her to claim a much needed win.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 2

Liudmila Samsonova vs Alison Van Uytvanck

Head-to-head: Van Uytvanck 1-0 Samsonova

Samsonova is another powerful who has not reached the heights she is capable of in 2024. But she lifted the title in Den Bosch in 2022 and 2023, thriving in the fast conditions at the tournament. Samsonova should not underestimate Van Uytvanck, who reached the fourth-round of Wimbledon in 2018. The Belgian will try and be aggressive, but it is unlikely that she will be able to do that often enough against Samsonova’s formidable serve.
Prediction: Samsonova in 2
