French Open Day 4 Women’s Predictions Including Danielle Collins vs Olga Danilovic

Danielle Collins Miami Open

The second round of the women’s singles starts on Day 4 of the French Open. We will get to see 16 matches scheduled for Wednesday, and our writers here at LWOT will predict all of them for you, as always. We split the matches between four articles. Our other three articles feature Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff vs Tamara Zidansek, and Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Shane Black, and Nurein Ahmed. Who do you think will advance?

French Open Day 4 Predictions

Dayana Yastremska vs Yafan Wang

Jordan:
Yastremska was not close to her best in the first round but, she managed to find a way to fight through. The Ukrainian will overwhelm Wang if she produces anything near what she is capable of. Yastremska has not done that too often though since her run to the Australian Open semifinal, meaning she could be involved in battle again.
Predicion: Yastremska in 3

Shane:
Dayana Yastremska has not won back-to-back matches since the Australian Open. That said, she is the decisive favorite against Yafan Wang. The 30-year-old Chinese has never found success on the clay.
Predicion: Yastremska in 3

Nurein:
Calling Yastremska’s matches is a bit of guesswork because the Urainain is extremely inconsistent. We are not quite sure which version we will get here, but if she plays to her abilities, she’ll ease past Yafan Wang, who truthfully got a cushy opening match.
Predicion: Yastremska in 3

Viktorija Golubic vs Anastasia Potapova

Jordan:
Golubic did very well to beat Barbora Krejcikova in the last round, although the 2021 champion was nowhere close to her best. Potapova will try and hit through her opponent as she does in every match. She did that to great effect in the opening round, but I feel like Golubic’s playing style could stifle her in this matchup.
Prediction: Golubic in 3

Shane:
Golubic has played just three clay-court matches this season. She has never been a great clay-courter, so I expect Potapova to find success early and often off both wings.
Prediction: Potapova in 3

Nurein:
Golubic scored a big win over a former champion in the first round. But let’s honest: Krejcikova has struggled with a growing list of injuries all season. Potapova has the power to deal with the Swiss one-harder, and she also looked equally impressive in beating compatriot Rakhimova.
Prediction: Potapova in 2

Caroline Garica vs Sofia Kenin

Jordan:
Garcia often struggles at her home Grand Slam and that could be seen in the opening round, where she was close to being knocked out. Kenin seems to have finally turned the corner somewhat after a terrible first few months of the season. If she plays well, the former runner-up at Roland-Garros possesses the style that can stay in the rallies and push Garcia into making unforced errors. I think Kenin will get a big win.
Prediction: Kenin in 3

Shane:
Carlone Garica vs Sofia Kenin has the chance to be a blockbuster match. Kenin has not been good this year but should raise her level against the No. 21 seed. That said, I see the Frenchwoman finding the finish line.
Prediction: Garcia in 3

Nurein:
Garcia survived an opening-round humiliation against German qualifier Eva Lys, who needed three sets to get through. Kenin also came back from the brink to win in the decider. It’s a clash between two players who have not played to their strengths this season, but French player Garcia can bank on the home crowd to aid her cause.
Prediction: Garcia in 3

Danielle Collins vs Olga Danilovic

Jordan:
These two had an epic battle in Madrid that Collins won 10-8 in a deciding set tiebreak. The American’s run of 23 wins in 26 matches shows how well Danilovic played to almost oust her. However, the Serbian has not produced that kind of level as consistently as Collins. I am not fully confident that she will push the American that close again.
Prediction: Collins in 2

Shane:
Danielle Collins has been on the run of a lifetime over the past three months. There is absolutely no reason to believe 23-year-old Olga Danilović has the tools to puncture the American.
Prediction: Collins in 2

Nurein:
What you always see in a Grand Slam is that unheralded young players can flip the switch against the big favorites, and this is one of those matches where Danielle Collins needs to be extra cautious. Danilovic plays her best tennis on clay and has won four matches to reach this stage (three from qualifying). But with the American hardly missing a shot since announcing her retirement, she’ll power through.
Prediction: Collins in 2
