It’s Day 3 at the WTA event in Strasbourg and we’ve got some big names to look forward to. The hammer blows of Luidmila Samsonova will come up against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez whilst red-hot Danielle Collins and former World #3 Elina Svitolina are also in action. All this and more as we look to predict all the results on the third day in Strasbourg.
WTA Strasbourg Day 3 Predictions
Fiona Ferro vs Anhelina Kalinina
Head-to-head: First meeting
Though she hasn’t lived up to the heights of her Rome final last year, Anhelina Kalinina has had a solid clay season. Wins over Mirra Andreeva, Martina Trevisan and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova are testament to the fact Kalinina is no pushover on this surface.
Fiona Ferro secured a definitive win over Erika Andreeva that deserves some respect. Still Kalinina is the more experienced and in-form of the two players so we’re predicting two tight sets.
Prediction: Kalinina in 2
Elina Svitolina vs Clara Burel
Head-to-head: Svitolina 2-0 Burel
Elina Svitolina’s game is extremely high level. She thrives against big hitters like Clara Burel, particularly on a clay court, and won’t mind taking control if her opponent chooses to sit back. Burel is 2-3 on the clay season and Svitolina is arguably her hardest opponent. The Ukranian seems like the safe bet.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
Liudmila Samsonova vs Leylah Fernandez
Head-to-head: 1-1
Luidmila Samsonova posted a great win against Barbora Krejcikova in her first round. When Samsonova starts to get into a rhythm at tournaments, she can be deadly.
It’s hard to know what you’ll get from day to day with the Russian, however. The conditions are slow and Leylah Fernandez will be good at moving her opponent around with her slider and penchant for redirection. The former US Open finalist will probably be wily enough to come through this one.
Prediction: Fernandez in 3
Danielle Collins vs Katerina Siniakova
Head-to-head: Collins 2-1 Siniakova
Danielle Collins will only be knocked off her stride by the meanest of strikes at the moment. Sabalenka got the better of her twice and she won the previous two tournaments she played.
Katerina Siniakova isn’t in the same weight category. Collins will probably enjoy picking off the Czech’s middling serves and will be sure to rush her opponent’s forehand.
Prediction: Collins in 2
