WTA Rome Day 2 Predictions
Taylor Townsend vs Brenda Fruhvirtova
Head to Head: First Meeting
Taylor Townsend has made a couple of third rounds this season, in Charleston and Miami. The American will be wanting to get further this time. Brenda Fruhvirtova has not gone any further than the second round. Having qualified for Rome the Czech will be dangerous, as qualifiers can be.
Prediction: Townsend in 3
Anastasia Potapova vs Xiyu Wang
Head to Head: 1-0
Anastasia Potapova has not made it beyond the second round in the last few events she has taken part in. The Russian has played Wang Xiyu once before already this season. In Indian Wells Potapova took the match in three sets, after Wang Xiyu had taken the first. Wang Xiyu made the third round in Miami but not progressed much in other events.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
Irina-Camelia Begu vs Rebeka Masarova
Head to Head: First Meeting
Irina-Camelia Begu made the second round in Madrid, but the semi final in an ITF event in Germany last week. The Romanian will looking to extend her run on clay, which is clearly a good surface for her. With and 8-3 win/loss record this season on clay, Begu is one to watch. Rebeka Masarova made a clay court final in early April in Spain at a WTA 125 event. However, since then the Spaniard has not progressed beyond the second round.
Prediction: Begu in 3
Caroline Dolehide vs Bernarda Pera
Head to Head: 0-1
Caroline Dolehide made the third round in Madrid, which is the furthest she has reached. Clay seems to be a better surface for the American than hard courts, so Rome should be good for Dolehide. Bernarda Pera has not been as successful, but has qualified for Madrid & Miami. The battle of the Americans should be the match of the four, with Pera having won the last meeting back in 2017 it could go either way
Prediction: Dolehide in 3
