A Look at the Changes and Enhancements of the 2025 ATP Calendar

On March 22, the ATP unveiled the 2025 calendar with significant changes on the slate. The 2025 ATP calendar features 60 tournaments spanning across 29 countries. Let’s dive into the changes we will see next season.

Omission of Five ATP 250 Events

The ATP has decided to remove five 250-level tournaments from the 2025 calendar: the Cordoba Open, Millenium Estoril Open, Lyon Open, Hall of Fame Open, and Atlanta Open. With the removal of the Hall of Fame Open, there will be one less grasscourt event in an already short season.

Three Events Upgraded to ATP 500’s

The Dallas Open, Qatar ExxonMobil Open, and BMW Open have been upgraded from ATP 250 to ATP 500 tournaments. Following the upgrades, there will be 16 ATP 500-level tournaments, with a staggering six of them scheduled in February.

ATP Calendar Rescheduling of Hamburg and Los Cabos

The Hamburg Open, which was always played after Wimbledon in July, is scheduled to move a week before Roland Garros. This move makes perfect sense as it will attract more top players to prepare for Roland Garros.

The Los Cabos Open has been rescheduled to July after being shifted to February for the first time this season.

Canadian Open and Cincinnati Expanded to Two Weeks

ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, National Bank Open Presented by Rogers and Cincinnati Open, will expand to 12-day events. Following this expansion, Monte-Carlo Masters and Paris Masters remain the only seven-day Master 1000 events.

Flicker of Hope for the Estoril Open

Out of all the ATP 250 events omitted from the calendar, Estoril is the only one mentioned by the ATP. Of the event, the ATP stated,

As a result of multiple calendar changes, the Estoril tournament, which does not hold an ATP membership but has operated under an ATP licence since 2015, does not currently feature in the calendar. Following many years of successful collaboration, the ATP and the tournament are continuing to explore all possibilities to try to find a solution for the highly regarded event to take place in 2025, and beyond.”

As we see the schedule fluctuate, what are you most excited about on the 2025 ATP calendar?
