It promises to be an entertaining final at the ATP Los Cabos Open with three-time Major finalist Casper Ruud set to go head-to-head with Australia’s Jordan Thompson. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the final, as well as the action in Rio and Doha. But who will lift the title in Mexico?
ATP Los Cabos Final Predictions
Casper Ruud vs Jordan Thompson
Head–to–Head: Ruud 2-2 Thompson
Jordan Thompson produced one of the better performances of his career in a brilliant win over the world number #6 and top seed, Alexander Zverev in the semi-final in a pulsating 3-hour 42-minute epic. The Australian could have wrapped it up earlier, but he wasted five match points in the third set before walking all over the tiebreaker to secure a fourth win over a top 10 player.
Thompson now has a third chance to win his maiden ATP title but standing in his way is Casper Ruud who hasn’t dropped a set all tournament. The Norwegian is equally in imperious form in his Los Cabos debut but rode on a a bit of luck to oust the defending champion, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semis. The Greek hit twice as many aces and almost twice as many winners but was undone by committing twice as many unforced errors.
Both players have an even head-to-head but two things play to Ruud’s advantage this time. He is vastly experienced in tour finals and has spent significantly less time on the courts of Los Cabos. Thompson will pose a stern challenge and will be extra motivated to win his maiden tour title but Ruud’s superior experience and skills should see him prevail.
Prediction: Ruud in 2
