ATP Los Cabos Open: Four Players Withdraw From Event

Holger Rune in action ahead of the French Open.

The ATP Los Cabos Open takes place earlier in the calendar this season. Nonetheless, there is still a terrific entry list for the tournament. Last year’s Los Cabos champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and 2023 Toronto Masters runner-up Alex de Minaur are the top three seeds. However, four players have elected to withdraw from the event. This article names those who have withdrawn and then lists their four replacements in the draw.

Four Players Withdraw From ATP Los Cabos Open

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Last year’s French Open quarterfinalist, Holger Rune, is the first player to withdraw from the ATP Los Cabos Open. It has been a turbulent start to the season for the Dane. Rune has already lost Boris Becker and Severin Luthi from his coaching team, and his results on-court have not been up to his previous levels. It is likely he feels he needs some time to mentally regroup after recent events.

Christopher Eubanks is the second player to withdraw from the ATP Los Cabos Open. Last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinalist was last in action in Dallas nearly two weeks ago, where he lost in the second round to James Duckworth. It is not clear what the specific reason is for Eubanks’ decision not to play in Mexico.

Mackenzie McDonald has also withdrawn from the tournament. He has not competed since an Australian Open first-round loss to Shang Juncheng. The American has not disclosed why he has been off the ATP Tour for the last month, but it is likely there is some kind of physical issue for an absence of that length.

JJ Wolf is the final player to withdraw from the ATP Los Cabos Open. He retired from his Australian Open first-round contest with Sebastian Baez last month because of an injury. Wolf has not competed since due to that problem, and it means he will be missing in Mexico.

Who Replaces Those Four Players In The Draw?

Rinky Hijikata replaces Rune at the ATP Los Cabos Open. The Australian had a solid run to the quarterfinal in Delray Beach this week. He now has a chance to build on that against Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening round.

Alex Michelsen benefits from the withdrawal of Eubanks. His last match was a thrilling battle against Tommy Paul in Delray Beach, which he lost in a final set tiebreak. The extremely talented 19-year-old plays French veteran Constant Lestienne in the first round in Los Cabos.

Aleksandar Vukic enters the ATP Los Cabos Open draw after the withdrawal of McDonald. He had his best season to date last year, but the Australian has lost all four matches so far this season. Vukic has a chance to break that streak against Rodrigo Pecheco Mendez in round one.

Finally, Marcos Giron replaces JJ Wolf at the ATP Los Cabos Open. The 30-year-old has been in great form. He narrowly lost the final in Dallas to Tommy Paul, before following that with a semifinal appearance in Delray Beach.  Giron faces Taro Daniel in the opening round.
