United Cup Day 3 Predictions Including Taylor Fritz vs Cameron Norrie

Jessica Pegula in action ahead of the WTA San Diego Open.

Great Britain got off to a great start on day 1 of the United Cup, with a 2-1 win against Australia. The challenge gets even tougher against the defending champions the United States of America. As always, we at LWOT have predictions for all of the day’s United Cup contests, including Serbia vs China and Canada vs Chile. But who will win this tie?

United Cup Day 3 Predictions

Jessica Pegula vs Katie Boulter

Head-to-head: first meeting

Katie Boulter performed impressively in her straight sets victory on the opening day at the United Cup. However, an even better display will be needed to topple American #2 Jessica Pegula. The world #5 had another very strong year last season, and conditions in Australia suit her game well, as she proved at the United Cup last year.

Boulter used the slice well in her previous match. Such variety may be a good strategy against Pegula, who willl dominate the Briton if the rallies become one-paced. Regardless, expect the American’s superior overall game in suitable conditions to put the USA 1-0 up. There is a good chance it will be in straight sets too.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Taylor Fritz vs Cameron Norrie

Head-to-head: Fritz 7-6 Norrie

These two have one of the most underrated rivalries on the ATP Tour, with 13 meetings, all on hard courts. This includes a tight battle at last year’s United Cup won by Cameron Norrie. There is a nice clash of styles in this matchup that is always enjoyable to watch. Taylor Fritz’s big serving and powerful groundstrokes contrasting with Norrie’s superb movement and consistency.

It is impossible to confidently predict a match between these two. Norrie did have a long battle against Alex de Minaur on the opening day. That could help by making him more battle hardened, or he may get slightly fatigued if this one goes to a third set. It may be the latter against someone of Fritz’s quality.

Prediction: Fritz in 3

Jessica Pegula/Taylor Fritz vs Katie Boulter/Neal Skupski

Head-to-head: first meeting

There is plenty of doubles pedigree in this clash. Pegula has forged a strong doubles partnership with US Open singles champion Coco Gauff, while Neal Skupski is a three-time Grand Slam doubles champion. Although Fritz and Boulter have less overall doubles experience, they possess playing styles well suited to doubles.

This is likely to be a close battle between two strong teams. Overall, the experience and class of Skupski on the doubles court could just about make the difference. Team Great Britain to ensure that they get at least one point on the board.

Prediction: Boulter/Skupski in 3
