ATP Basel Day 4 Predictions

Alex de Minaur vs Tallon Griekspoor

Head-to-head: Griekspoor 1-0 de Minaur

Griekspoor won the only meeting between these two earlier this season. This came on the grass courts in Hertogenbosch in June, with the Dutchman eventually going on to win his home tournament. Can he upset de Minaur again? It is unlikely. Griekspoor’s came is capable of being dangerous on all surfaces when he finds his range. However, de Minaur’s athletic and patient style is an even bigger task to overcome on the hard courts of Basel. Expect de Minaur to be too solid for Griekspoor.
Prediction: de Minaur in 2

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Botic van de Zandschulp

Head-to-head: Auger-Aliassime 1-1 van de Zandschulp

Auger-Aliassime has endured a torrid season. The Canadian won three consecutive indoor titles at this stage of the season in 2022, and will lose a huge number of ranking points unless something special happens in Basel. However, Auger-Aliassime did produce his best performance for a considerable period of time in a comprehensive opening round win in Basel By contrast, van de Zandschulp had a much tougher battle to overcome Roberto Bautista Agut. Although 2023 has been very difficult for Auger Aliassime, he is a considerably better indoor player than the Dutchman when he is even close to his best. He is likely to show just enough of his old form to get another win in Basel.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3

Casper Ruud vs Dominic Stricker

Head-to-head: First meeting

Ruud is one of the players battling for his place at the ATP Finals. The three-time Grand Slam finalist has largely struggled since his run to the final of the French Open in June. Nevertheless, Ruud did play solidly in the previous round against Alexander Bublik, and looked closer to his best. Stricker’s playing style is not that dissimilar to Bublik, although he is less mercurial. The Swiss player will have a home crowd behind him, and Ruud has been a victim of many upsets this season. Overall, the Norwegian is likely to be too solid in Basel, but an upset is not out of the question.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
