Here we take a look at four of the matches on court day two at WTA Cluj-Napoca. Hard indoor courts favour some players more than others. We took a look at the other day two matches in a separate article. But who will advance?
WTA Cluj-Napoca Day Two
Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Alycia Parks
Head to Head: First meeting
A meeting of a doubles pairing. Elena-Gabriela Ruse made the semifinal in Portugal last week, before losing to Brit Harriet Dart. Romanian Ruse and American Alycia Parks have teamed up here for the doubles and trounced their first-round opponents. One will have to lose in the singles, though, and neither will want to. This will be a tough match for both.
Prediction: Parks in 3
Anna Bondar vs Anastasiya Soboleva
Head to Head: First meeting
Hungarian Anna Bondar is the definite favourite for this one. Coming off the back of an impressive doubles run in Rouen has some European hard court recent experience. Despite losing in the first round of the singles in Rouen, Bondar should not be discounted. Anastasiya Soboleva lost in the second round at the ITF event in Romania at the end of September and had to qualify here. This should be fairly straightforward.
Prediction: Bondar in 2

Leolia Jeanjean vs Tamara Korpatsch
Head to Head: 0-1
Early losses for both Leolia Jeanjean and Tamara Korpatsch means both are lacking in confidence. However, the German does lead the head to head, meaning that Korpatsch will know she can defeat Jeanjean. The French woman will be eager to level up the head to head but it will be tough going.
Prediction: Korpatsch in 3
Sorana Cirstea vs Eva Lys
Head to Head: First meeting
Top seed and homegrown player Sorana Cirstea will have the crowd behind her, eager for a home win. The Romanian hasn’t had much joy on the Asian swing and will be glad to get back home. Eva Lys will be hoping to spoil the party for the top seed. The German has also struggled coming into the European hard courts, so it will be interesting to see what she can do against Cirstea at WTA Cluj-Napoca
Prediction: Cirstea in 2
