Day 1 of ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai has some enticing matches across the grounds. In this article we look at four of the first day matches. Who do you think will win?
ATP Shanghai Day 1
Miomir Kecmanovic vs Yunchaokete Bu
Head to Head: First meeting
Miomir Kecmanovic has had up and down form in the Asian swing. Making the quarter final in Chengdu and pushing top seed Alexander Zverev to three sets. However, the Serbian failed to qualify for the China Open. Yunchaokete Bu has built momentum coming into this event. Having made the semi final in Guangzhou, which was the last event Bu entered before receiving a wild card here. It is unlikely that Kecmanovic will be troubled by the Chinese player here.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 2
Dane Sweeny vs Taro Daniel
Head to Head: First Meeting
Australian Dane Sweeny eased through qualifying to make the main draw in Shanghai. The 22-year-old made the quarter final in Guangzhou and the main draw in Zhuhai. Taro Daniel has not had such a good time lately. A second round defeat in Chengdu, failing to make the main draw in Astana will have impacted the Japanese players confidence. This will be a good match as qualifiers can be dangerous having played matches to get to this stage.
Prediction: Sweeny in 3

Marcos Giron vs Daniel Elahi Galan
Head to Head: First Meeting
Marcos Giron took a great scalp in Astana, defeating Stan Wawrinka in three tight sets. Giron then took Dominic Thiem to three sets there too before losing. Daniel Elahi Galan lost in the first round in Chengdu and didn’t qualify for the China Open. The American wont have any difficulty here against the Colombian
Prediction: Giron in 2
Richard Gasquet vs Zhizhen Zhang
Head to Head: First meeting
Frenchman Richard Gasquet is the slightly lower ranked player and has not played on the Asian courts yet this swing. The 37-year-old made the semifinal in the Orleans Challenger, losing to eventual champion. The Chinese has not played on the main circuit since the US Open, but has main draw entry here. This is the pick of this selection of matches and should be close
Prediction: Gasquet in 3
