“Tennis in the Land” is back in Cleveland, Ohio, as the final lead-up event to the US Open. Established in 2021, this 250-level event brings in some younger, talented players looking to make noise at a WTA hardcourt event. Day 2 in Cleveland is loaded with matches, including No. 3 seed Veronika Kudermetova taking on Nadia Podoroska. We at LWOT have the preview and prediction for that match and all other happenings around the grounds of Cleveland–in articles featuring Sloane Stephens vs Lauren Davis and Caroline Garcia vs Linda Fruhvirtova. But who will advance?
WTA Cleveland Day 2 Predictions
Xiyu Wang vs Clara Burel
Head-to-Head: Wang 1-0 Burel
21-year-old Xiyu Wang squares off against 22-year-old Clara Burel with a spot in the Cleveland second round on the line. Wang is just 2-5 in her last seven matches and is looking to gain some valuable confidence ahead of the season’s final Slam. Wang’s best surface are hardcourts, and she should be able to use her baseline consistency to her advantage. Burel played terrific tennis in July, posting an 11-2 record in clay-court matches. While she holds solid form, I do not see Burel being able to raise her level to Wang on the hardcourt.
Prediction: Wang in 3
Mirra Andreeva vs Tamara Korpatsch
Head-to-Head: Andreeva 1-0 Korpatsch
16-year-old Mirra Andreeva has had a phenomenal start to her professional tennis career. She holds a 21-5 record this season across all levels, including a run to the second week at Wimbledon. During that run in London, Andreeva took down Tamara Korpatsch. The two will square off for the second time on Monday. Korpatsch has seven tour-level wins this season, the most in his career. I expect these two to put on another three-set battle in Cleveland. Once again, I give a slight edge to Andreeva and her ability to sustain points from the baseline.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3

Martina Trevisan vs Peyton Stearns
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Martina Trevisan and Peyton Stearns will square off for the first time with a spot in the Cleveland second round on the line. Trevisan has had a strong presence on the Tour over the last two seasons. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 18 in May and has shown the ability to dominate clay-court tennis. Stearns is playing her first season of professional tennis and has looked phenomenal doing she. She is currently ranked No. 55 in the world and holds a 31-13 level in all contests. Stearns is strong off both wings and is very consistent from the baseline. I see her wearing down Trevisan in this match.
Prediction: Stearns in 3
Veronika Kudermetova vs Nadia Podoroska
Head-to-Head: first meeting
No. 3 seed Veronika Kudermetova comes to Cleveland looking for her first win since Wimbledon. The 26-year-old has had an excellent season and holds a 15-7 record since late April. She takes on Argentinian Nadia Podoroska in Round 1. Podoroska is 4-7 in tour-level hardcourt matches this season. She has struggled to gain confidence on the surface and will have trouble with the power of Kudermetova. I see the Russian advancing past Podoroska in straight sets.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 2
