The late-night Mexican bonanza at ATP Los Cabos will kick off tomorrow and will see stars like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cameron Norrie, or Borna Coric battle for the title. As always, we here at LWOT will preview and predict every match. Who do you think will win?
ATP Los Cabos Day 1 Predictions
Alejandro Tabilo vs Felipe Meligeni Alves
Head-to-head: Meligeni Alves 1-0 Tabilo
After losing narrowly to Pierre-Hugues Herbert in Wimbledon qualifying, Tabilo went on an eight-match win streak at Challengers. The Chilean won Karlsruhe and reached the semifinals of San Benedetto before losing to eventual champion Benoit Paire but failed to defeat Damir Dzumhur in Umag qualifying in his most recent match. Meligeni Alves found some form in June, winning the Lyon Challenger and making the final qualifying round of Wimbledon but has not won since. Tabilo has had more hardcourt success over the course of his career so far so he should be a favorite here.
Prediction: Tabilo in 2

Gonzalo Lama vs Thiago Agustin Tirante
Head-to-head: Lama 2-1 Tirante
30-year-old Lama is still looking for his first-ever main draw win at the ATP tour but despite leading the head-to-head over Tirante, it is unlikely to happen for the Chilean here. Lama hadn’t won a match on hard since 2020 before qualifying here and has generally struggled this season, 10-19 on the year. Tirante won the Morelos Challenger on hard without dropping a set back in April so should come into the match as a solid favorite.
Prediction: Tirante in 2

Gabriel Diallo vs Gijs Brouwer
Head-to-head: first meeting
Brouwer qualified for Wimbledon out of a tough section that included Jurij Rodionov and Otto Virtanen but has struggled outside of it. Diallo has shown great promise in individual matches but has not had the consistency to string longer runs together. The young Canadian’s game is explosive and on his day, he should be able to blow past Brouwer here.
Prediction: Diallo in 3

Aleksandar Kovacevic vs Omni Kumar
Head-to-head: first meeting
After winning two Challenger titles early in the season, Kovacevic has not had a smooth transition to the main tour, most recently winning just one game against Jordan Thompson in Newport. He will get an opportunity to play himself into form here against Kumar, who is making his ATP main tour debut after qualifying past Renzo Olivo and Jason Jung. Despite his poor form, Kovacevic is still definitely the favorite here.
Prediction: Kovacevic in 2

John Isner vs Rinky Hijikata
Head-to-head: first meeting
38-year-old Isner has played sparingly this season, putting together strong runs to the final in Dallas and semifinals in Newport, but losing in the first round of his home tournament in Atlanta last week. Hijikata got into the pattern of winning a round or two at most tournaments before losing, even reaching the semifinals as a lucky loser at s-Hertogenbosch. With Isner yet to win a match outside of the U.S. this year, I see Hijikata narrowly winning.
Prediction: Hijikata in 3
