The mini-clay season continues. This week, we are at the WTA 250 in Warsaw and everybody’s fingers are tightly crossed for a rematch of the French Open final between Swiatek and Muchova. Before then though, there are plenty of exciting matches to look forward to. We’ve predicted some of the outcomes of those matches on the second day of action, and we look at the rest of the matches in a separate article.
WTA Warsaw Day 2 Predictions
Tatjana Maria vs Natalija Stevanovic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Natalija Stevanovic showed plenty of promise in her run to the round of 32 at Wimbledon. She’ll have the power to give Tatjana Maria a run for her money here, especially on a surface where slices tend to sit up a bit.
Maria’s had success on clay before but her best results have come in the altitude of Bogota where a good slice reigns supreme. She’ll might be a bit exposed here against a player that’s playing with confidence.
Prediction: Stevanovic in 3
Weronika Ewald vs Rebecca Sramkova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Weronika Ewald is a 17-year-old wild card from Poland. Some 17 year olds show extremely promising tennis early but Ewald’s lack of experience is just too significant. She hasn’t played against a top 500 player in her career so far and she’s played two professional matches on clay. Rebecca Sramkova isn’t far removed from the two W40 finals and W125 semifinals she reached in May and June. There should be a lot separating the two players.
Prediction: Sramkova in 2.

Katerina Siniakova vs Heather Watson
Head-to-head: Siniakova 1-0 Watson
Heather Watson’s game on clay has never been outstanding. She’s definitely a player that prefers to overwhelm her opponents with early, hard strikes of the ball. Her game has dipped a little in recent years too—she hasn’t beaten a Top 50 player on the surface since 2016 (Sara Errani).
Katerina Siniakova’s game has conversely grown in confidence. Her convoluted forehand should also be harder to rush on a slower surface, impacting on Watson’s game. Despite the fact it’s not the Czech’s favorite surface, form and match-up point to a Siniakova win.
Prediction: Siniakova in 2.
