ATP Hamburg Day 2 Predictions Including Lorenzo Musetti vs Elias Ymer

Lorenzo Musetti at the French Open

The second day of the ATP singles on the clay courts in Hamburg promises much excellent viewing. There are many top players scheduled to play including defending champion Lorenzo Musetti. We also have two other articles predicting the rest of the ATP matches in Hamburg–one features Francisco Cerundolo vs Yannick Hanfmann, and the other features Alexander Zverev vs Alex Molcan. Who do you think will progress to the next round?

ATP Hamburg Day 2 Predictions

Cristian Garin vs Hugo Dellien

Head-to-head: Garin 1-0 Dellien

Both players are currently outside the Top 100 and could use a good run on what is the favoured surface for both men. Garin has had some solid results despite his ranking such as the fourth round of Indian Wells and the third round of the other three Masters events he took part in. The Chilean has a very dangerous game when it is working well as he showed during his run to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Garin also comfortably beat Dellien on the clay courts of Houston earlier this year. Dellien always gives it everything but I think his playing style is a bad match against the Chilean. Garin to win relatively easily once again.
Prediction: Garin in 3

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Dusan Lajovic

Head-to-head: Lajovic 1-0 Kecmanovic

This is a hard one to call. Lajovic won a very close three-set match between these two this year in the semifinals of the Srpska Open on the way to his eventual title win. It was the the highlight of what has been a very good year for the 33-year-old Lajovic, whose win percentage of 55% this season is higher than he has managed at the end of any season. (aside from 2012 when he only played one tournament) Kecmanovic will need to shake off being beaten surprisingly easily by Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the semifinals of Gstaad last week. The younger Serbian had been playing well in the earlier rounds. My instinct is he will recapture enough of that form to get his revenge in this one.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3

Lorenzo Musetti vs Elias Ymer

Head-to-head: First meeting

The conditions during the post-Wimbledon clay court swing suit Musetti’s game perfectly. He showed that last year during his stunning run to the title, where he beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The Italian also looked good last week in Bastad before being stopped in the semifinals by a very on-form Casper Ruud. It is difficult to foresee the third seed in Hamburg facing much trouble from Ymer. It has been a difficult year for the Swede. He has slipped down the rankings to #186, and is yet to even have a deep run at a Challenger event this season. If he were to beat Musetti it would be one of the biggest upsets of the season. But I think the defending champion will win this one very easily.
Prediction: Musetti in 2
