The last WTA semifinal spot in Bad Homburg is yet to be determined. The quarterfinal match between Liudmila Samsonova and Katerina Siniakova was suspended on Thursday evening due to darkness and is expected to resume on Friday. Therefore, we have the prediction of the one semifinal which is set, and that pits world #1 Iga Swiatek and Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti. Who will reach the final?

Iga Swiatek vs Lucia Bronzetti

Head-to-head: first meeting

It looks like Iga Swiatek will make a serious assault on the Wimbledon title judging by what she is serving up in Bad Homburg. Swiatek sounded upbeat in her post-match interview following her 6-3 6-2 rout of Russia’s Anna Blinkova on Thursday. Since dropping the first set in her opening match against Tatjana Maria, the Pole has strengthened the screws and won each of the next six sets on offer to make the semifinal – remarkably, her first on grass.

Lucia Bronzetti will stand in Swiatek’s path and an 11th win in a row. The Italian will also contest her maiden WTA semifinal on grass. Prior to this week, Bronzetti had only played five matches on the surface, winning twice and losing three times. But she’s had a fantastic season right from the first ball she struck at the United Cup to winning her first WTA title on clay in Rabat a month ago. Bronzetti has benefitted from playing a couple of clay specialists this week, meaning her matches were evenly poised. But Friday’s semifinal isn’t the case as Swiatek is head and shoulders above the Italian in talent and class, and that should reflect in the scoreline.

Prediction: Swiatek in 2
