With only one week until Wimbledon, this WTA event in Bad Homburg is one of the last opportunities for players to gain some invaluable match time on the surface. Many eyes will be on Bianca Andreescu–her form has been patchy throughout the season but she has the game to play well on this surface. We’ve predicted her match against Sonay Kartal and more on the second day of action in Germany. We’ve also published articles predicting the outcomes of the other seven matches taking place on the same day.
WTA Bad Homburg Day 2 Predictions
Anna-Lena Friedsam vs Mayar Sherif
Head-to-head: First meeting
Whilst the rest of the tour’s clay-court stalwarts suffer the effects of the grass, Mayar Sherif has been playing clay-court ITF events. It’s hardly the best preparation going into Wimbledon but it’s paid off. The Egyptian has won two 125s in a row, giving her enough points for a seeded position at the third major of the year.
Confidence can’t be underrated so, regardless of Sherif’s surface preference, Anna-Lena Friedsam will likely find Sherif a tricky customer to defeat. At the end of the day though, Sherif’s choice to play ITF events instead of playing tour-level main draws whilst ranked inside the world’s top 40 speaks volumes about her game on grass.
Prediction: Friedsam in 3.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Katerina Siniakova
Head-to-head: 1-1
Katerina Siniakova at her best plays a fast game. On grass courts, she should be able to dominate proceedings against a clay-courter like Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Czech is coming back from an injury, however, with wins coming sparsely over the last five or six months so her best tennis may be ways away.
Cocciaretto is still a bit too underpowered and fresh to this surface for us to back the upset here. Some rust in the Siniakova game will maybe push this to a decider but we have to back Siniakova in the long run.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3.

Bianca Andreescu vs Sonay Kartal
Head-to-head: First meeting
The Brits always come into the grass court swing well-prepared. Sonay Kartal crashed out of the first round of French Open qualifying and went straight into training for the grass-court season. She’ll likely come into Bad Homburg feeling about as comfortable as she could.
Maybe Bianca Andreescu was vulnerable at the start of the grass season but three tournaments in and she’ll likely be feeling less rusty. If she’s found her rhythm, she should be a nightmare to play on the grass. We’ll give Andreescu a while to warm into this one given her rocky season but she should get the win.
Prediction: Andreescu in 3.
