WTA Bad Homburg Day 1 Predictions Including Liudmila Samsonova vs Viktoriya Tomova

Liudmila Samsonova US OPEN

Sunday starts Day 1 of Main Draw action at the WTA Bad Homburg Open, as players try to take one final opportunity to prepare their grass-court games for Wimbledon. As always, we here at LWOT will share our thoughts on every match with you. Who do you think will win?

WTA Bad Homburg Day 1 Predictions

Martina Trevisan vs Alize Cornet

Cornet has had such a disappointing 2023 after such a promising 2022. It really is a shame that her impressive form from the Majors didn’t last. Still, the Frenchwoman seems to play well on the grass, and Trevisan hasn’t looked particularly great recently.
Prediction: Cornet in 3

Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Rebeka Masarova

Both of these women reached the semifinals in the last event they contested. For Masarova, that was only a WTA 125 on clay. For Sasnovich, it was a WTA 250 on grass in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Sasnovich is likely the better player in general, but on grass this match won’t be in question.
Prediction: Sasnovich in 2

Liudmila Samsonova vs Viktoriya Tomova

This is a surprisingly good match for a tournament a week before a Major. Don’t let Tomova’s ranking of #80 fool you–she has great potential and has been consistently improving. She may have gotten off to a late start in becoming a top-level pro, but she’s well on the way to getting there–even if she’s currently in a bit of a slump. Samsonova’s rise has been somewhat quiet, but she’s not into the Top 15 in the world and isn’t really slowing down. The Russian might be threatening the top players in the biggest events soon.
Prediction: Samsonova in 2
