First-round action begins at the ATP Terra Wortman Open in Halle. Six matches are scheduled on day one of the tournament with the two top seeds set to take centre stage. As always, we here at LWOT have every match covered in our daily predictions, including Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Gregoire Barrere. But who will advance?
ATP Halle Day 1 Predictions
Oscar Otte vs Laslo Djere
Head-to-head: Otte 2-1 Djere
Oscar Otte is in dire form right now. Even in the friendly confines of Stuttgart on home soil this past week, he failed to win a match. As a result, his ranking will dip to outside the Top 200 on Monday. And the situation is grim for the entire grass-court swing, with semifinal points to defend in Halle and third-round points at Wimbledon. Laslo Djere isn’t the most comfortable on grass, but he won’t pass up the slice of good fortune of drawing an out-of-form opponent.
Prediction: Djere in 3

Nicolas Jarry vs Corentin Moutet
Head-to-head: Jarry 2-0 Moutet
Nicolas Jarry will play his first match on grass since 2019. If you’ve never watched the Chilean play before, you would assume he is more of a natural threat on grass. But with his stature and unbridled power hitting, Jarry is a success on clay courts where he has won three ATP titles. On paper, he should overwhelm Corentin Moutet, but the pint-sized Frenchman has an extremely unpredictable forehand that could keep the score very close.
Prediction: Jarry in 3

Daniil Medvedev vs Marcos Giron
Head-to-head: Medvedev 2-0 Giron
Daniil Medvedev’s defeat at the hands of Adrian Mannarino might just be the wake-up call he needs to get his season moving in the right direction again. Outside the Grand Slams, Medvedev is hands down the top-performing player on Tour this season with five titles to his name. And with Novak Djokovic playing a limited schedule, Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz will vie for the top prizes in the second half of the season.
Marcos Giron came through qualifying here though he stuttered in beating Andrea Vavassori at the weekend. This is a terrible matchup for the American who lost both head-to-head meetings against Medvedev and won just three games in their encounter at this year’s Australian Open. This should be a comfortable opener for the top seed.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
