First-round action at the ATP Boss Open in Stuttgart concludes on Tuesday. Seven matches are on the slate including Tommy Paul’s clash against the returning Benjamin Bonzi. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article, featuring Nick Kyrgios. Who do you think will advance?
ATP Stuttgart Day 2 Predictions
Aslan Karatsev vs Corentin Moutet
Head-to-head: Moutet 2-0 Karatsev
Karatsev looks like a confidence-driven player. Out of nowhere, he found a rich vein of form in the past two months, racking up double-digit wins on clay. Moutet is a pain to play against on clay, but he is marginally better than the Russian on grass even though a player with Karatsev’s power should not be disregarded on quicker courts.
Prediction: Moutet in 3
Denis Shapovalov vs Marton Fucsovics
Head-to-head: Shapovalov 1-1 Fucsovics
Shapovalov comes into Stuttgart unseeded and is a bit of a question mark after a dreadful first half of the season. But he is one of the players with a lot more experience on grass. Fucsovics is no pushover as he has a great track record too, reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinal last season and only losing to eventual champion Djokovic. The surface definitely plays to Shapovalov’s strengths, but he’s been in sticky situations for most of this season and he hasn’t been able to find solutions.
Prediction: Fucsovics in 3

Tommy Paul vs Benjamin Bonzi
Head-to-head: Paul 2-0 Bonzi
Benjamin Bonzi reached the quarterfinals on his debut in Stuttgart last year. However, he comes in very cold this week after missing the last two months due to a wrist injury he picked up while playing Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo. Paul has beaten the Frenchman twice in their head-to-head. And Bonzi’s physical struggles mean he faces an uphill battle to turn the tables anytime soon.
Prediction: Paul in 2
