The third round begins on Day 5 of the ATP Rome Masters. The tournament is really heating up after some early upsets. As always, we here at LWOT predict all of the matches–split between this and a second article. Who do you think will win on Sunday?
ATP Rome Day 5 Predictions
Cameron Norrie vs Marton Fucsovics
Norrie looked like he was breaking through on clay two years ago, but he hasn’t quite sustained that. Fucsovics, meanwhile, is looking like a potential giant-killer at times, especially right now. Norrie is one of the world’s best players and perhaps a giant too far in his current form.
Prediction: Norrie in 3
Casper Ruud vs Alexander Bublik
Bublik is always a fun player to watch, and Ruud has lost a step or two since his heights last year, but the talent disparity here is way too great–especially on clay.
Prediction: Ruud in 2
Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Shevchenko
Shevchenko is a solid enough player and still improving, but Sinner is one of the best in the world. Three years ago, he looked like an elite contender at the French Open. He hasn’t quite found that level again since losing to Rafael Nadal at that event, but he’s not far off. It will take one of the absolute best to beat him.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
Holger Rune vs Fabio Fognini
Fabio Fognini is not quite the man he once was. The talent is always still there, but it appears less and less nowadays. Still, Rune has struggled a bit the past few weeks, and it might be time for one last great run from the Italian in his home country. Don’t be shocked if he pulls this off.
Prediction: Fognini in 3
