Iga Swiatek ahead of WTA Indian Wells

Day 6 at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid features the end of the third round, as everyone tries to book their places in the Round of 16. As always, we here at LWOT share our thoughts on all of the matches with you. Sunday will see eight matches, so we have four of them in this article and four in a separate article. Who do you think will advance?

WTA Madrid Day 6 Predictions

Jessica Pegula vs Marie Bouzkova

Pegula is a fascinating player. There is nothing truly superlative about her game, but there are no weaknesses, either–not even minor ones. She does everything well and is constantly improving. Her style and level mean that she often can’t win the biggest matches against the very best in the world–but it also means she almost never loses to anyone else.
Prediction: Pegula in 2

Martina Trevisan vs Alycia Parks

Parks had a huge winning streak earlier this year, including her first career Tour-level title, but has since gone a bit cold. Well, that streak is over. The young American phenom looks back at her best, and that’s bad news for the rest of the Tour–especially since her best is constantly improving.
Prediction: Parks in 2

Lesia Tsurenko vs Daria Kasatkina

Kasatkina has spent the past few years searching for the form that once saw her break into the Top 10. There will be bits and pieces at times, but she hasn’t put together a great run at a big event in a very long time–last year’s surprising semifinal run at the French Open notwithstanding. She looks solid for now, though, which might mean she can beat Tsurenko.
Prediction: Kasatkina in 3

Iga Swiatek vs Bernarda Pera

Honestly, it seems weird to predict Swiatek matches nowadays, especially on clay. There’s not much else to say–Swiatek is the best player in the world, by far, and she should be a heavy favorite to win.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
