WTA Charleston Day 3 Predictions Including Jessica Pegula vs Anna Blinkova

Jessica Pegula Australian Open

The WTA Tour has turned to the clay courts of Charleston, South Carolina, for the Credit One Charleston Open. This 500-level event includes a 56-woman draw featuring some of the world’s best players. On Day 3, No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula will take on 24-year-old Anna Blinkova. We at LWOT have the preview and prediction for that match as well as all other happenings around the courts of Charleston. But who will advance?

WTA Charleston Day 3 Predictions

Daria Kasatkina vs Madison Brengle

Head-to-Head: Kasatkina 1-0 Brengle

Daria Kasatkina is up to a career-high ranking of No. 8 in the world and is the No. 3 seed in Charleston. She squares off against Madison Brengle in Round 2. The veteran American picked up a solid Round 1 victory over Kai Kanepi and is looking to find some form after an up-and-down start to the season. Unfortunately for the 33-year-old, I do not see her getting past Kasatkina. The Russian has struggled to put together wins to start the season, but I believe she is ready to flip the page during the clay season.
Prediction: Kasatkina in 2

Sachia Vickery vs Julia Grabher

Head-to-Head: Vickery 1-0 Grabher

27-year-old American Sachia Vickery worked through two rounds of qualifying and is on the brink of reaching the third round of a WTA event for the first time since 2019. All three of her wins this week have come against higher-ranked players, something she will have to pull off again against Julia Grabher. The Austrian pulled off a massive Round 1 upset against the No. 10 seed Shuai Zhang. It was the second-highest-ranked win of her career. Grabher prefers the clay as her favorite surface and should be able to take control of this match from the baseline.
Prediction: Grabher in 3

Sofia Kenin vs Irina-Camelia Begu

Head-to-Head: Kenin 1-0 Begu

No. 15 seed Irina-Camelia Begu squares off against American Sofia Kenin in what sets up as a terrific second-round match in Charleston. Kenin won their only previous encounter 6-3 6-2 in Cleveland last year. Kenin has had some solid results of late, but playing Begu on the clay is difficult. I think Kenin will push the Romanian in the first set, but ultimately Begu’s consistency will win her this match.
Prediction: Begu in 2

Jessica Pegula vs Anna Blinkova

Head-to-Head: first meeting

No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula gets her Charleston Open campaign underway against Anna Blinkova. This will be the first meeting between the two. Blinkova has struggled on the clay throughout her early career, and this match will not lend her any favors. I expect Pegula’s consistency from the baseline will allow her to dictate most points in this match.
Prediction: Pegula in 2
