WTA Bogota Day 2 Predictions
Dayana Yastremska vs Carolina Alves
Head-to-head: first meeting
Carolina Alves qualified for the main draw in Bogota against all the odds. But she is unlikely to win on her WTA main draw debut. Bogota has the highest altitude of any WTA tournament and Yastremska will thrive in these conditions with her power-packed game. It’s a tall order for the Brazilian qualifier even with the Ukranian’s lingering frailties this season.
Prediction: Yastremska in 2
Sara Errani vs Elina Avanesyan
Head-to-head: first meeting
Sara Errani suffered heartbreak at the weekend. She lost the WTA 125K final in San Luis Potosi to fellow Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in a three-set dogfight. It will be intriguing to see how she picks herself up after playing a sensational tournament throughout the week. Avanesyan, like Errani, lost to the eventual champion last week and she was playing at an extremely high level too. So this could very much be a nip-and-tuck. The fresher legs of Avanesayn should outlast the 35-year-old veteran.
Prediction: Avanesyan in 3
Elise Mertens vs Mirjam Bjorklund
Head-to-head: first meeting
Elise Mertens is the top seed and the only Top 50 player in the field in Bogota. That is the kind of news the Belgian would want to hear in her quest to win her eighth career title. Bjorklund comes into this match with a bit of momentum she built up in the Miami qualifiers but she doesn’t have the weaponry in her artillery to hurt Mertens. And with the top seed hitting her stride in North America she’ll throw cold water at the Swede’s momentum here.
Prediciton: Mertens in 2
