WTA play at the Miami Open kicks off on Tuesday, with some excellent matches to look forward to on Day 1. As always, we here at LWOT share our thoughts on all of the matches. Who do you think will win?
WTA Miami Day 1 Predictions
Katherine Sebov vs Linda Fruhvirtova
Linda Fruhvirtova began her breakthrough last year, but she hasn’t quite rocketed to the top of the game since then. Still, she’s a better player and should be able to handle the Canadian wild card, even on these courts.
Prediction: Fruhvirtova in 2
Tamara Korpatsch vs Tereza Martincova
This is a sneakily good matchup on an overall fun day of play. Martincova seems more solid overall for now, but both of these women can rise up and do impressive things on their day. I’ll go with consistency for now, but it should be a good match.
Prediction: Martincova in 3
Katerina Siniakova vs Claire Liu
Liu was looking like she was ready to make a major breakthrough years ago, but things never solidified since then. She’s still supremely talented, but Siniakova is playing very well right now. It’s hard to take the American, though she plays well at home.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3
Camila Giorgi vs Kaia Kanepi
Every Giorgi match is a potentially fun one. The Italian can be one of the best in the world when her game is on. And, luckily for her and the tennis world in general right now, she’s playing well. Coming off a title in Merida a month ago, trust her not to be overwhelmed by the quirky Kanepi.
Prediction: Giorgi in 2
