In addition to this one, the other two feature Taylor Fritz vs John Isner and Frances Tiafoe vs Yoshihito Nishioka. Who do you think will advance?
ATP Acapulco Day 1 Predictions
Marcos Giron vs Michael Mmoh
This should be a fun all-American battle. I still think Mmoh has more raw talent, but Giron certainly puts it together more often, especially on bigger stages. Then again, this isn’t such a big stage. This pair have split their past two meetings, though one was a Challenger over five years ago. Still, Giron is playing better now, so I’ll pull that way.
Prediction: Giron in 3
Emilio Gomez vs Tommy Paul
The Ecuadorian did not have the best of showings last week, losing to a suddenly-inspired Bernard Tomic. Paul, meanwhile, is off to the start of the best season of his career. That seems like a good combo for the American right now.
Prediction: Paul in 2
Ben Shelton vs Holger Rune
Expect to see this battle a lot over the coming decade. Shelton has a huge game and really began showing it with a deep Australian Open run. Rune, meanwhile, is now in the Top 10 after winning the Paris Masters last year. Expect a brutal match with tons of hard hitting, but Rune has the more polished game. For now, at least.
Prediction: Rune in 2
