The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships begin on Sunday in Dubai, UAE. This tournament is the first WTA 1000 level tournament of the season, here is your look at predictions from day 1 at WTA Dubai. We have predictions for every match of the tournament on day 1.
Irina-Camelia Begu vs Barbora Krejcikova
Begu was a semifinalist in Adelaide to begin the year, Krejcikova reached the second week of the Australian Open. Both players have cooled off sense good results in January, the former world #2 Krejcikova has more upside to her game though and should win what looks to be a nip and tuck battle. Krejcikova in 3
Martina Trevisan vs Petra Kvitova
Trevisan is on a streak of 4 straight losses that can quickly turn into 5 straight if she can’t upset the big name Kvitova in this match. While Kvitova hasn’t been on fire recently, she has yet to suffer a first round exit this season. Kvitova is a heavy favorite for good reason and it would take something special by Trevisan to see an upset here. Kvitova in 2
Amanda Anisimova vs Vera Zvonareva
38 year old Vera Zvonareva is a wild card at this tournament, it’s her first singles match in a year on the WTA Tour. Anisimova has been struggling for her part, perhaps not fully recovered from a broken toe she suffered last season. This match is a bit hard to predict but Anisimova should be able to find a way to win as Zvonareva rarely plays singles these days at the end of her career. Anisimova in 2
Linda Fruhvirtova vs Danielle Collins
Collins has been respectable but not remarkable this season so far, Fruhvirtova reached the second week of the Australian Open and has a ton of upside. The Czech has way less experience than the American but this feels like a closely contested match where an upset is enough of a possibility to pick it. Fruhvirtova in 3
