WTA Guadalajara Day 2 Predictions Including Elena Rybakina vs Karolina Pliskova

Bianca Andreescu in action at the WTA Guadalajara Open.

With 16 matches on the schedule on day two at the WTA Guadalajara Open, there should be plenty of entertaining action for the fans at the Panamerican Tennis Center. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, including Marta Kostyuk vs Maria Sakkari, Anna Kalinskaya vs Barbora Krejcikova and Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Katerina Siniakova. But who will advance in Guadalajara?

WTA Guadalajara Day 2 Predictions

Magdalena Frech vs Yulia Putintseva

Head-to-head: Putintseva 1-0 Frech

If this match is anything like their clash in Dubai earlier this season, there won’t be much opportunity for fans to get into the contest. Yulia Putintseva was in dominant form when she took on Magdalena Frech in February, dropping just three games in a 6-2 6-1 win, and must be considered the favourite once again. That said, Frech did play well in the qualifying, accounting for Anna Danilina and Danielle Lao without losing a set to reach the main draw. Putintseva, however, is a notable step up in the quality of opposition, even if the Kazakh has been in indifferent form of late. Expect Putintseva to have just about enough to reach the second round.

Danielle Collins vs Caroline Dolehide

Head-to-head: Collins 3-1 Dolehide

This pair met three times across 2016 and 2017 and, as their first match lasted for only one game, they effectively split those matches with one win apiece. Since then, however, their careers have gone in very different directions. Danielle Collins has broken into the world’s top 10, whilst Caroline Dolehide is yet to get her ranking into double-digits nevermind reaching those lofty heights.

Those divergent paths were reflected in their most recent meeting, a comprehensive Collins win in the first round at the Australian Open earlier this year. This may be marginally more competitive than that 6-1 6-3 thrashing, but it would be a major surprise to see Dolehide really trouble her compatriot.

Elena Rybakina vs Karolina Pliskova

Head-to-head: Rybakina 1-0 Pliskova

Don’t expect to see many extended rallies here. Both Elena Rybakina and Karolina Pliskova are at their best when playing front foot, attacking tennis with their biggest weapons their serves. This may also not be one of the better matches on day two, despite the profile of both with neither in particularly impressive form. Rybakina’s most significant problems, however, have been with staying fit not with winning matches. In fact, she has reached one semifinal and one final in her last three tournaments. That is a considerably better record than Pliskova’s. Provided the Kazakh is fit enough to take to the court (and stay on it), she should have the edge here.

Bianca Andreescu vs Petra Kvitova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Bianca Andreescu delivered a reminder of just what the tennis world has lost to her seemingly endless injury problems by dismissing Jil Teichmann in the first round at the WTA Guadalajara Open. Petra Kvitova, who has suffered plenty of injury frustrations herself, also looked very sharp in the first round, beating Bernarda Pera 6-3 7-5, maintaining her solid recent form. This match could probably go either way, with both certainly good enough to win it. But Andreescu might just have the edge in this matchup. Kvitova is at her best when given rhythm by her opponents and there are few better at denying their opponents that than Andreescu.

Prediction: Andreescu in 3
