Lorenzo Sonego will take on Alexander Bublik for the 5th time in their careers, with Sonego competing in his 5th ATP final (2-2 so far) and Bublik his 7th (1-5 in ATP finals thus far). Here is your look at the final matchup from ATP Metz in France.
Lorenzo Sonego vs Alexander Bublik
Alexander Bublik will be happy to get some rest via his semifinal win against Stan Wawrinka that came due to Wawrinka’s first set retirement with a thigh injury. All of Bublik’s previous matches in Metz were three setters, having dropped the first set against Evan Furness and Emil Ruusuvuori, and the second set against Holger Rune in the quarterfinals, only to rely on his serve to come back and win each time.
Bublik will be a bit of an underdog against Lorenzo Sonego despite the surface, Sonego leads the h2h 3-1 and hasn’t dropped a set this week. The Italian beat Aslan Karatsev, Gilles Simon, Sebastian Korda and Hubert Hurkacz with relative ease, all accomplished players with threatening games. Bublik should be able to compete here, but it doesn’t look like anyone is going to stop Sonego this week. Sonego in 2
