US Open Day 5 Predictions Including Nick Kyrgios vs JJ Wolf

Nick Kyrgios US Open 2022

Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medevedev are both US Open contenders, they will feature on day 5 of the tournament playing for a spot in the second week. We have predictions for every day 5 match in New York from our panelists, including Andy Murray’s.

Daniil Medvedev vs Yibing Wu

Damian Kust: The amount of natural talent Yibing Wu is carrying is just scandalous, which allowed him to produce that phenomenal 35-4 win/loss record for the year. He probably doesn’t have enough to hit through Daniil Medvedev though and this could be a pretty harsh reality check for the young Chinese. Medvedev in 3

Jack Edward: Yibing Wu could be seriously dangerous. A 32-4 record this year speaks for itself at any level and he will be playing with nothing to lose against Daniil Medvedev. Though there will be a determined air of qualifier energy around him, I’m worried he won’t have encountered anything quite like the world #1’s alien game before. I don’t underrate Wu’s chances of putting up a fight but Medvedev should be too good in all departments for him. Medvedev in 4

Daniel Elahi Galan vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Damian: Daniel Elahi Galan will need to play some more of that ballsy tennis that allowed him to take out Stefanos Tsitsipas if he wants to progress further. His second round was much weaker and against someone as complete as Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, he might struggle. Davidovich Fokina in 5

Jack: It’s not the third-round we expected and the result will probably be a surprise too at this rate. Trusting Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is not easy and honestly Daniel Elahi Galan has looked the slightly more impressive of the two players so far. Galan’s dream run to continue. Galan in 4

Nick Kyrgios vs JJ Wolf

Damian: That’s a very exciting matchup with the shotmaking potential on both guys being absolutely off the charts. The way Nick Kyrgios is playing this year you gotta take him as the winner though, especially as he seems very serious about going deep in New York based on his first two performances. Kyrgios in 4

Jack: J.J. Wolf has practically arrived at this point. He has the shots and the flashiness to go far in this game provided he can put together some consistency. He’s not ready to beat someone with the gaul of Nick Kyrgios yet but he’ll certainly go down swinging. Kyrgios in 5

Karen Khachanov vs Jack Draper

Damian: Jack Draper’s yet to drop a set despite having to face Emil Ruusuvuori and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Karen Khachanov is often the typical opponent who cuts off runs like that – usually sort of unimpressive, but very capable of raising the level when needed. This will be a tough physical test for Draper, but he’s been holding up recently in this regard. Draper in 5

Jack: Jack Draper was exceptionally tidy in his dismissal of Felix Auger-Aliassime. Exceptional. The writing’s been on the wall for a while – there is no way Karen Khachanov doesn’t make it a struggle but this feels like Draper’s time to shine. Draper in 5
