US Open Day 1 Predictions Including Kyle Edmund vs Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud Montreal

Casper Ruud looks to move on from the first round of the US Open against Kyle Edmund, Marton Fucsovics and Alex de Minaur also play. We have predictions for every day 1 US Open match including Daniil Medvedev’s first round match.

Maxime Cressy vs Marton Fucsovics

Damian Kust: Maxime Cressy’s matches tend to be about a few points here or there, but it’s pretty clear he’s got the upper hand in this one. Marton Fucsovics has been struggling all year and doesn’t pose that much of a threat at the moment. Everything should be in Cressy’s hands if he executes his game right.

Yesh Ginsburg: A year ago, I would have taken Fucsovics in this. But he has regressed while Cressy has found consistency in his unorthodox style. The American should roll. Cressy in 3

Filip Krajinovic vs Alex de Minaur

Damian: Filip Krajinovic has only really been dangerous on occasion this year, but he’s not to be underestimated. It’s not an easy opening draw, but Alex de Minaur enjoys the US Open courts and should keep doing what he does best – picking up a couple of wins in almost every event he plays. de Minaur in 4

Yesh: This is potentially a great matchup, though Krajinovic rarely keeps at a high level for full matches nowadays. de Minaur hasn’t been at his best for a while either, but he’s at least closer. de Minaur in 4

Quentin Halys vs Arthur Rinderknech

Damian: Quentin Halys hasn’t been able to get used to the main tour yet and seems to have lost the form he had in the spring. Arthur Rinderknech hasn’t been doing too hot either, but the Challenger final in Vancouver he reached a week ago should at least give him some confidence for the US Open this year.

Yesh: On clay I’d probably take Halys. But over five sets on these fast courts? I’ll go with the bigger serve. Rinderknech in 5

Kyle Edmund vs Casper Ruud

Damian: Even with all his hard court improvements, Casper Ruud is somewhat vulnerable to early upsets. Kyle Edmund doesn’t seem ready to provide that sort of challenge this early in his comeback though, especially over the best-of-five format. Ruud in 3

Yesh: Edmund is slowly working his way back into form after a long injury hiatus. Ruud is not the opponent to face when you’re not 100%. Ruud in 3
