The first day of play from WTA Granby, Championnats Banque Nationale, features the likes of Harriet Dart and Magdalena Frech in action in the final opportunity to tune up ahead of the US Open, here is your predictions for every opening day match.
Harriet Dart vs Maryna Zanesvka
Dart played well on her home surface of grass but has struggled since Wimbledon, Zanesvka had a semifinal this summer on clay but isn’t much of a standout on hard courts. Dart isn’t a world beater but she looks good enough on this surface to secure a win. Dart in 2
Nadia Podoroska vs Tatjana Maria
The pair have split h2h meetings, Podoroska comes off a final on clay and has been in red hot form, although all of her wins have been coming on clay lately. Maria made an incredible run to the semifinals of Wimbledon, she’s not backed that up with any sort of form though, hence why she remains a player on the fringes of the WTA Tour despite clearly showing signs of tier 1 talent. With Maria playing poorly, Podoroska inspires more confidence. Podoroska in 3
Xinyu Wang vs Katherine Sebov
Sebov has been really good on the ITF tour this year but has struggled to do anything special at a higher level, Wang won a match in Vancouver and has had more success at a higher level of play than Sebov. Sebov is playing at home and should be highly motivated though so I’ll go with the upset. Sebov in 3
Danka Kovinic vs Magdalena Frech
The pair have split h2h meetings, Kovinic has been struggling and not entirely fit, Frech is 4-2 since Wimbledon and should be favored to secure her 5th win in this match given her superior form. Frech in 2
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova vs Daria Saville
Saville won their only meeting, Schmiedlova has lost four straight matches, a record that also matches Saville’s losing streak. Both players are way out of form and one of them has to win. Saville has the h2h advantage and the higher ranking, so tie goes to the runner. Saville in 2
