It was an eventful day at Kitzbuhel in Austria. As home favourite Dominic Thiem crashed out, rain delays left the fourth quarter-final scheduled for Friday morning. Consequently, there is currently just one semi confirmed so far, but it looks set to be a good one.
ATP Kitzbuhel Semifinal Predictions
Albert Ramos-Vinolas vs Roberto Bautista Agut
Head-to-head: 1-1
Two stalwarts of the Spanish tennis scene. This is surprisingly just their third meeting, and the first since 2017. Ramos-Vinolas has looked unwavering here on clay, which is unsurprising really – 10 of his 11 ATP finals have come on this surface. Yet to drop a set, he looks in better touch than Baustista Agut, who laboured to a three-set win over Jiri Lehecka in the quarters. For a man famous for mesmerising consistency, it’s been a funny few weeks for Bautista Agut. His COVID-induced exit from Wimbledon was followed by successive losses on the return to European clay, and despite his two wins this week, he still looks short of his best form. Given the quality of their returns, their attritional tennis and the slow surface, it will be tough for one player to establish dominance. It will be close, but the formbook suggests Ramos-Vinolas should pip it.
Prediction: Ramos-Vinolas in 3
