Day 6 at Wimbledon will see the conclusion of the third round as players hope to advance to the second week. As always, we here at LWOT will share our thoughts on all eight matches with you. We split the day’s matches between this and a separate article. Predicting Saturday’s matches are Jakub Bobro, Andy Watson, and Fraser Learmonth. Who do you think will win?
Wimbledon Day 6 Women’s Predictions
Elena Rybakina vs Qinwen Zheng
Jakub:
Rybakina has done very well to not drop a set so far, taking out dangerous qualifier Coco Vandeweghe before defeating popular dark horse pick Bianca Andreescu. Zheng’s road has been a bit easier, beating Sloane Stephens and Greet Minnen. The Kazakh is the likely favorite to make the quarterfinals out of her section at this point and I believe she will clear this hurdle.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
Andy:
Having watched most of Rybakina vs Andreescu it is clear that Rybakina is timing the ball very sweetly indeed. Zheng is very dangerous too though and in a way this two similar games up against each other. I think that the greater experience will pay off in the end for the Kazakh.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
Fraser:
Rybakina established herself as a contender for the title here with an emphatic win against Andreescu. Zheng is a bright young star who may well win this tournament in the future but I think a deeper run than this is unlikely at the first time of asking.

Barboa Krejcikova vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Jakub:
Krejcikova got her first wins since February here, beating Maryna Zanevska and Viktorija Golubic in straight sets. The Czech will have a tougher challenge coming up, as last year’s quarterfinals Tomljanovic has dropped just nine games in the first two rounds. This is close to a coin flip for me and I will lean towards the Australian.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 3
Andy:
Tough one to predict. The Czech isn’t back to full match fitness yet but feels ready to compete at a high level again. Tomljanovic has continued her recent excellent record at Wimbledon and I think that she is in a good place to come through this match.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 3
Fraser:
Krejcikova has come from nowhere at Wimbledon and looks in surprising touch for someone who has played so little recently. She faces a tough ask in Tomljanovic who made the quarters last year. She should be up to the challenge though.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 3
Simona Halep vs Magdalena Frech
Jakub:
The 2019 champion has cleared two difficult hurdles to start, beating Karolina Muchova and sending Kirsten Flipkens to singles retirement. Frech backed up her upset over Camila Giorgi with a win over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova but the Pole has struggled to trouble the Romanian in previous meetings, yet to win a set.
Prediction: Halep in 2
Andy:
Halep is starting to get back into the groove on the grass now having had to come back in both sets against Flipkens. Frech had a fairly tight match too and actually I think this might be similar. Halep will probably prove too strong in the end though to come through when it counts.
Prediction: Halep in 3
Fraser:
Halep looks like her old self again so far at Wimbledon. The former champion has put her name in the hat once again with her play so far and should make the second week. French is a good player but this is a bit beyond her.
Prediction: Halep in 2
Amanda Anisimova vs Coco Gauff
Jakub:
An exciting all-American derby between two young players, who have faced each other just once before during Gauff’s title run in Parma. Anisimova had to come back from a set down against Lauren Davis while Gauff followed up her tough win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse with an easier one against Mihaela Buzarnescu. Both have very bright futures but with what they have shown on grass so far, the 18-year-old has to be the favorite.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
Andy:
Another cracking match here. I think that both players will expose the movement flaws in each other but ultimately Gauff is the more accomplished mover, especially on a grass court. Also Anisimova’s backhand cross court may not have as much success as Gauff’s backhand is almost as good.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
Fraser:
An All-American shoutout awaits her featuring two rising stars in the women’s game. Both have lethal backhands. Gauff has the better serve and variety and Anisimovq has more power off the ground. The former is more of an advantage so pick Gauff to move on.
