We’re down to the last four in Berlin and what a lineup we have with top two seeds Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari making the weekend as well as Olympic Gold medalist Belinda Bencic and American teenage sensation and recent Roland Garros finalist Coco Gauff.
WTA Berlin Semifinal Predictions
Belinda Bencic vs Maria Sakkari
Head-to-head: Sakkari 2-0
To say Sakkari has had a disappointing few months would be a huge understatement. In fact, the last time she won three back-to-back matches before this week was all the way in mid-March. Not only has she put a good wins together here, her performances have finally been representative of a top 10 player with aggressive hitting and stunning numbers behind her first serve. In her way is world #17 Belinda Bencic who’s been pushed in all three of her matches this week including a good win 6-3 against Kudermetova in the quarterfinals. Based on form in Berlin and their previous matches it’s hard to see Sakkari losing this with her serving and groundstrokes being so potent on the fast grass.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2
Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur
Head-to-head: Gauff 3-1
After winning Madrid and making the final in Rome, the last thing people expected was Jabeur to bow out in the opening round of Roland Garros. In her first event back after that huge disappointment she’s been back to the level she was the last few months–as well as the level she showed in 2021, when she won Birmingham and reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on this very surface.
Things get a lot tougher now for the Tunisian, though, with Coco Gauff in her way fresh off her maiden Grand Slam final. Matchup wise it’s a weird one as Jabeur is solid and sometimes that’s the best way to be to break down Gauff’s breakable forehand. But if you look at their rivalry it’s anything but, with the American winning three of their four matches with two of them being very routine. Right now the teenager should be full of confidence and her game as we found out at Wimbledon in 2019 is very suited to the grass which should put her as the favorite.
Prediction: Gauff in 3
