The first of two women’s semifinal matches has been set at the French Open. American teen phenom Coco Gauff is through to her first Major semifinal. Martina Trevisan, at almost 30 years old, is also in her first Major semifinal. Who do you think will come through? Our writers share their thoughts. French Open Women’s Semifinal Predictions

Coco Gauff vs Martina Trevisan

Jakub:
After receiving one of the easiest roads to the quarterfinals, Trevisan was finally the underdog in her match against Leylah Fernandez but played some great tennis to take out the Canadian in three sets. Gauff is still yet to drop a set, most recently defeating Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals. The American is the favorite to reach the final from this match-up but it might not be easy. Trevisan will make the teenager play extra balls and ultimately, whoever deals with the occasion of a grand slam semifinal better will win the match.
Prediction: Gauff in 3

Damian:
Martina Trevisan is an extreme case of using a warm-up event as a springboard to go deep at a Slam. The Italian is suddenly playing with so much confidence, but her two most recent clashes had her drop her level a fair bit, having to come through a nerve-wracking finish against Leylah Fernandez. Cori Gauff, on the other hand, has been ruthless in this event, not dropping a single set. The American has performed at a steadier level and it is doubtful if Trevisan has enough weaponry to really put pressure on her. It might get tricky as both players haven’t experienced this stage of a Slam before.
Prediction: Gauff in 3

Yesh:
Both of these women are playing incredibly well right now. Each also got a bit of luck on their path this far, with Trevisan perhaps luckier. Still, Gauff looked ready to crumble under pressure in her last match (an unfortunate theme with her), and it will be even more intense in the semifinal. Trevisan is in the best form of her career, and I think she’s likelier to handle the occasion better.
Prediction: Trevisan in 3

Shane:
Coco Gauff and Martina Trevisan are both into their maiden Grand Slam semifinal. Gauff has yet to drop a set this tournament with Trevisan having dropped just one. I favor the 18-year-old Gauff in this one. The American has been incredibly consistent from the ground over the past week and a half and is nearly impossible to hit through.
Prediction: Gauff in 3

Jack:
Having won in Rabat prior to the tournament, Martina Trevisan has rode a wave of form into the French Open semifinals. This should not be understated – her confidence has shone through in her sublime forehand, looping, defending, attacking and angling it to victory over five very textbook clay-court matches for the Italian. But Coco Gauff has got that extra something required to find a way through this exceptional weapon. Many have been waiting all tournament for that usual blip from the American but it hasn’t happened. She has won all her matches in straight sets by playing incredibly steadily and moving exceptionally well. Gauff has turned up to her first Grand Slam as an adult with the maturity of game to match.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
