French Open Day 5 Predictions Including Marin Cilic vs Marton Fucsovics

Marton Fucsovics French Open

Andrey Rublev takes on Federico Delbonis in the second round of the French Open 2022, Delbonis reached the fourth round last year. We have predictions for every day 5 match from Paris from our panelists.

Andrey Rublev vs Federico Delbonis

Damian Kust: Federico Delbonis is way off his 2021 form, when he reached the fourth round here. Andrey Rublev has been one of the players who have avoided upset losses this year, at least for the most part. He should be relatively safe again here, although he’d rather not drop the opening set like against Soon-Woo Kwon, then it might get complicated. Rublev in 3

Glenys Furness: Rublev as the seventh seed is definitely the favourite on paper. Dropping a set in the first round, was not part of the plan, but Rublev managed to turn it around after the first set tiebreak. Delbonis, however progressed in straight sets. The Argentine’s build up though to the French Open was not ideal. Delbonis lost in the first or second round of the lead in events. Rublev should take this easily, Rublev in 3

Marin Cilic vs Marton Fucsovics

Damian: The first rounds of these two didn’t give us much of a read in regards to their form as both defeated their opponents really comfortably. Marin Cilic owns two previous wins against Marton Fucsovics, but clay gives the Hungarian a very good shot at the upset. Still, it should be on the Croat’s racket, and he’s been quite solid recently. Cilic in 4

Glenys: Cilic is a grand slam winner already. Although over 8 years ago and on hard courts. The Croatian has previously made the quarter final in Paris. A dominating performance in the first round should concern opponents. Fuscovics best showing in Paris has been the fourth round. The Hungarian lead up wasn’t good, losing in qualifying. Cilic has the experience and skills, the Croatian will take this in 3. Cilic in 3

Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Mackenzie McDonald

Damian: Nikoloz Basilashvili saved a match point against Maxime Cressy, which turned out to be a very unpleasant matchup. The Georgian should enjoy himself more here. Like Cressy, Mackenzie McDonald isn’t at his best on clay courts, but also can’t take time away as effectively as his compatriot did in round one. Basilashvili in 4

Glenys: Basilashvili needed to come back from 2 sets down in the first round against Cressy. The Georgian is seeded but found the American difficult to get to grips with. McDonald is his opponent in the next round. The American needed four sets to get into the second round. McDonald has nothing to lose as he has already matched his furthest finish here. McDonald to shock the seeded player and take the match in 4. McDonald in 4

Joao Sousa vs Lorenzo Sonego

Damian: Lorenzo Sonego hasn’t been great in 2022, while Joao Sousa is having a continuous resurgence. The Portuguese was phenomenal in Geneva last week and while he went five sets against Chun-Hsin Tseng here, the level in that one was absurdly good in parts. This is a very nice opportunity for the veteran. Sousa in 4

Glenys: Portuguese Sousa had an interesting lead in to Paris. The Geneva Open saw Sousa make the final, before a tight match against the eventual winner Casper Ruud. Sousa needed the full five sets however to get by his first round opponent. Sonego is seeded, and eased through the first round. Although, his build up was not ideal. Sousa will be a test, but Sonego will take the match in 4 sets, Sonego in 4.
