Day 3 in Lyon features both Round 1 and Round 2 matches on the ATP Tour. Frenchman Ugo Humbert will look for support from his home country in what should be a very intriguing match against #4 seed Alex de Minaur. LWOT brings you the prediction for that match as well as all other happenings across the grounds of Lyon.
ATP Lyon Day 3 Predictions
Oscar Otte vs Sebastian Baez
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Oscar Otte and Sebastian Baez meet in Round 2 in Lyon after both men cruised during straight-set, Round 1 wins. This will be the future meeting between the two. Oscar Otte is having the best season of his career in 2022. He is looking to reach his third clay quarterfinal of the season. 21-year-old Argentinian Sebastian Baez is one of the best young players on this surface. He holds a career tour-level winning percentage of 61.5 on clay courts. Baez picked up his maiden title in Estoril and has won nine of his last ten matches. I favor him to continue to roll on this surface.
Prediction: Baez in 2
Daniel Altmaier vs Federico Coria
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Both Daniel Altmaier and Federico Coria have reached a new career-high ranking in the last month. Not much separates Altmaier, World #54, and Coria, World #59, in this Round 1 match. The German won a Challenger title in Heilbronn last week. He holds an 8-3 record in all competitions on clay this season. Federico Coria, who has much favored the clay-court season throughout his career, failed to reach the main draw in both Madrid and Rome. However, he did reach the quarterfinals in Marrakech just over a month ago. This should be a very tightly contested battle, though I slightly favor Daniel Altmaier who should carry strong confidence into this event.
Prediction: Altmaier in 3
Ugo Humbert vs Alex de Minaur
Head-to-Head: de Minaur 2-1 Humbert
Ugo Humbert picked up a straight-forward 6-3 6-4 Round 1 win over fellow Frenchman Gregoire Barrere. That sets up a Round 2 matchup between him and fellow 23-year-old Alex de Minaur. These two met in Barcelona earlier this season with the Australian picking up the three-set victory. Ugo Humbert has struggled of late after reaching a career-high ranking of World #25 in June of 2021. The Frenchman has just four tour-level wins this season. Alex de Minaur is 7-4 on the clay this season with all of his losses coming against players in the World’s top ten. I see de Minaur winning this fairly easily.
Prediction: de Minaur in 2
